What year truck? Where are you at? Some state's don't care what you do as long as it passes 'inspection'. Like Kentucky.
You could pick up F250's and F350's with 460's from the factory.

big ass engine, lil engie bay
I could fit a 502 in my 240! but....massive work to make everything in the bay larger and streach it out, thats just to give it room to fit, then I have to.....
well...

I don't know if you could physically fit in a Big Block Ford into a Mini-Truck like the Ranger.
You'd have to probably cut apart the frame and weld in custom mounts and bracing to hold the weight. You might be better off slipping in a Ford Small Block, like a 302 power plant.
You could do that for alot cheaper than a Big Block, and it should fit in with little hassle I would imagine.
You could stroke a 302 to a 347, GT40 Heads, Edelbrock Performer Intake manifold, full length headers. And you could run all the nice EFI go-fast parts from a Mustang or a Thunderbird that used a 5.0. Then don't forget a nice fat roller cam and to upgrade to better a valvetrain. While you're at it, throw in a T5 transmission.
If you buy a kit like this from Holley (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HLY%2D300%2D501%2D1) you're looking at 350hp. Add that kit ontop of a stroked 347 bottom end and you're looking at 380-400hp.
I would expect a motor like that in a Mini-Truck like a old Ranger would propel it into the 12's easy. Only worry would be, traction. Trucks don't have the best traction with high performance motors. Mainly cause they carry little weight over the rear axle. You'll have to do some suspension mods to get it to hook, or put in fat tires... or both.
Just a suggestion... But then again, what do I know about domestic V8s? :p

I have done this conversion before.
It's no easy task either. And even if you succeed, I hope you only intend on drag racing the truck and not driving it. ever.
The truck that we used was an '85 Ford Ranger with the Mazda 2.3 liter 4 cylinder and a 4 speed.
After removing the engine, cooling system, tranny, rearend, steering, and front suspension, we had to tear down the front of the truck down to the frame.
to fit the engine, we had to cut the firewall back just shy of the windshield and cut and reweld the firewall to give another 4 inches of clearance. I then took some heavy gauge iron and made the motor mounts to locate the engine (with the tranny attached) as far back as possible without hitting the firewall. Once that was completed I had to make another tranny cross-member and oil pan.
Once the engine and tranny were bolted in, then came the tedious task of custom making the headers, rebuilding the suspension, steering, brakes and replacing the fenders. If you think for one second that you can get away with the stock brakes or suspension on the truck with that big-block in it... you're in for a serious accident.
All in all the project took over 2 months and cost over $5000 and that was with us doing all of the welding/installing.
I personally will never do another project like this again. But, if you decide to do it, and do it right, you will most definitely have a very cool truck.

yeah i think i might use a 5.0 liter engine instead. i can just put a blower on it and get some pretty good power out of it. Oh and the only reason i was going to try to put the 460 in it is because it was in a wreak and i have to rebuild the whole front end. But now that i think about it, i would lose a lot of weight going to a 302. Where could i get a good blower kit for it though?
