I am getting an cat-back exhaust system for my and I just wanted to know what the nest brand/system is. My budget for the system is 1,000.00.

PS My car is a 2001, V6 Camaro

get the flowmaster kit for your application. Probably your best bet.

I think this is moslty an opinionated question..

Ive always been a big fan of the Borla adjustable stainless steel catback exhaust.. Ive never heard one on a V6 though.. They're about $1000cdn

You could also look into an SLP catback exhaust

not good for the V6, they depend on torque and that open exaust will kill that quick.

i got my magnaflow system for $315 and it seems pretty good to me.

I suppose I should have read the Whole post before answering?? Please dis regard my first post, A borla catback would sound like a$$ on a V6, and the SLP catback wouldnt do you much justice either.. As mentioned, Flowmaster would probably be the best way to go.. The 60 series mufflers are tuned for V6's Or you could get the 80 series Go to this link and you can hear a flowmaster 80 series on a 1999 3.8l firebird

Ok, at rksport they offer v6 borla exhaust packages specifically desgned for v6's. Does that change anything that you said. Or is it still not worth it. Cuz it syas there for the v6's not v8's.

i put the magnaflow on my v-6 and it sounds great and was a great performance gain. the piping isnt too large to lose all the torque that the sixer has and you get a decent horsepower increase...

Is there a highly recommended intake and exhaust combo available for an auto v6 2.8L?

The v6 Borla is just the rear kit, the muffler and tail pipes, no I-pipe included.

I wasnt aware Borla made an exhaust for a V6? Ive never had one!
That changes everything.. They've probably eliminated the adjustable flow through tailpipe for the V6's.. Might be something you wanna look into.. The best sounding exhaust ive ever heard on a 4th gen camaro has been borla.. Some say they're over priced though.. And ive never heard em' on a V6?

hey mcdrunky, ive seen some 3.8's around that'd give my stock 350 a good run for its money

Yes, if you look up the Borla rear kit, it is the muffler with two tail pipes comming out, not the famous adjustable catback. I've heard 3" cat-back is too big for a v6.

I didn't think there was such a thing as too big on a cat back exhaust... of course I don't know much about anything o.O

bigger is always better right? isn't there just a point where the performance gained by enlarging the exhaust ceases to be?

DaMoNe6969

Yeah.. the V6's dont need as much room to breath.. As mentioned by 92RS, A larger exhaust will increase horsepower, but lower your torque.. V6's depend a lot on torque to get that heavy car movin'

3" is all you want to put on the sixers. i actually dont think that you can find a cat-back that is larger than 3" for the v-6 camaro...

Ferrari, BMW, Even my Toyota Supra, etc , etc, have all put out engines that have or will hold 600hp without a problem.. Technology is a substitute for cubic inches.. I'll take my completly stock 6 banger supra and laugh at any relativly stock camaro under the LS1.. Put less than a $1000 into it.. and have the LS1's beat too.. And for all you thinking that its a small, light ass little jap scrap, it weighs more than most camaro's do

I posted this in car comparo's and I came up with Supra coming in at 3200lb. 200lb lighter than the Camaro.
Please let's not start another import camaro war... but I hate hearing Supra propoganda

Sticker on my door says 3600 n' some change.. Im gonna trust that before I trust... car comparo??

Not to start a war though.. Big fan of both cars..

Joseph1082
04-03-2004, 03:09 PM
Ok, Of course I'll trust your sticker as well. Do you own both? It's pretty much a driver's race, that's the consensus I've heard. About the issues of $1000 here, thousand there, I'm sure thye same money would keep the cars pretty equal, especially depepnding on where you put it. In the money for performance race, at first the Supra would be in ta slight lead, but with more money the LS1 would soon catch up.

Yeah I got a 91' Z28, and a 90' Supra
my Supra's an automatic.. it's pretty guttless off the line.. jap piece of shit has no torque.. its all boostHP.. Even the 3rd gen 350's will eat it off the line.. But for being an import.. Ive found that I can get a lot of power out of it cheaper than I can with a Camaro, But I just got the supra running and I havent pulled the Camaro out of hybernation yet.. So i havent got a chance to tinker with either of them yet

from my experience in just looking around at parts online (i'm sure alot of us car guys do that) i've noticed that jap parts are far more expensive than domestics. though i'm sure most of you have noticed that, but another point is that to get a supra, even in crappy shape, you will have to spend usually alot more than you would to get a camaro (because of demand from the import boom). so i think that getting a supra and putting $1000 into it will wind you up paying about $3000 or so more than you would to get a camaro in similar condition ($2000 is just a rough guess for the price difference on a supra and camaro in similar condition)

Oh, and you have the older body Supra, I was refering to the newer body style. And that is the reason I dont like imports, I dont like boost HP, I like real HP accompanied by Torque.
