Engine Size

Hey, I'm a newbie to the Camaro world. I was woundering what the max. size of engine is to put into a 82-92 Camaro. I want to put in a 454 or 540 for racing but i dont want to have to customize any mounts or parts. If anyone knows what the biggest size i could drop in w/o modification is, please reply.

I was "TOLD" that anything but the 350, you would need to change mounts, etc, etc.

you can stroke a 350 to whatever you want, but im sure that anything big block would need to have mounts fabbed up. if you're looking for stait up displacement, i saw a show on tv where they stroked a 350 to a rediculous number. not too sure cause it was a while ago but i thought i was 454. it was definitely four-something but i dont really remember...

i've heard about some of the 3rd gen police camaro's having 454's, but have never seen one. if a 454 will go in there, i'm sure about any other big block will fit. or there's always a 454 small block. i think that's right

with out mods you can put any small block chevrolet in it. Wether it be a small block 400 or a 454 stroker. As long as it's a small block chevy motor it will fit. Now if you go to any big block you'll have to do some fabrication, ie..shaveing the fender wells, cutting into the fire wall, welding some motor mounts, I think even relocating the tranny mounts, new driveshaft to make up for the length differance....yea small block all the way if you don't want all of that head ache. Ok cool, Ya that world engine is the 454 that i was talking about. 600hp crate from Jegs. Thanks guys... I was hoping I could fit the 540 BB 800hp from jegs but the 600 will do.

You can get 800hp out of that easy dude. Put a more extreme cam, better intake and tune the carb and you'll have a bunch more hp.

how much more would i get if i put a supercharger on it?

well most advertise a 50% max increase so you do the math.

you better reinforce your car first, youd twist the body with all that power, especially if it has t-tops, and prolly rip out the rear axle from underneath the car

Yeah, you'd need all kinds of chassis upgrades. If it can be taken off and they make stronger aftermarket replacements, getem.
