I am hoping someone else has encountered this issue and can offer a solution. I have a 1991 GMC Jimmy currently the Oil Gauge and the Battery Gauge are acting up. The battery gauge was the first to start. What it is doing is, basically bouncing from the top to bottom when the truck is stopped at a light. If the truck is in park then the gauge is normal. There is hesitation when you give the vehile gas to go. I have taken it in to have to electrical system checked and I was told that "sometimes they just do that" I was given no explanation at all. Recently the oil gauge has began jumping also. I had the oil changed and there is a small leak that needs repairs. The truck is not lacking in oil and it rarely needs topping up and yet the gauge continues jumping. Any ideas on what needs repair?

Hey there!
I have a '91 4x4 and noticed the oil gauge jumping quite a bit about a few months ago. My motor has about 200,000 miles on it. at first I panicked but didn't nitice any change in performance. I just got out from under a 3 day excursion changing the motor mounts in it (OH MY GOD!!!) :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: and noticed a couple sensor connectors where the plastic housing has disintegrated leaving a loose connector. One is the water and the other oil. The oil sensor is next to the oil filter. I have the extended oil filter on mine so it should be a little easier to get to. I've also had the gauge cluster out a few times doing stereo and alarm work over the years so it might be a loose connector on the dash. I dread going back under but I still have to check out the gauge problem. I will keep you posted over the next few days about what I find out.
If anyone wants to know how to change motor mounts on a '91 4WD jimmy just ask!
