You mean the block casting number? Its on the turbo side of the block.

The VIN number is the one you 'don't want people to tell you', so obviously you aren't looking for that number.

a "PIN" number could be more correct. A Part Identicifaction Number. A VIN is a Vehicle Identification Number.
There will be a number on the block that corisponds to the original car. But not a VIN number.

I believe he's looking for the engine serial code. I know the 300zx's had them.. but I don't have that anymore. The DSM's may be different.

yes the man from across the pond is correct!!! [how's the war? hope you are healing well, BTW]
according to the real technical manual [i got a copy on cd-rom] there is no VIN on the engine, only a model # and serial # here are the pics to find them on a 420a and a 4g63 [taken straight from the tech manual]

Even though you really want to prove me wrong, each part on a car DOES NOT have the VIN number. That number is only on the dash, stickers (firewall), and engine on some cars.
Each part does have a number, a Part number, but that has nothing to do with the VIN.
I bought the DSMonCD manual from the official site, and have no regrets. I download A LOT of stuff, but 30 bucks on the DSM account isn't 0.1% of my total expenses, so it's fine with me.
