Wiper problems

I have searched high and low and can not get an answer from anywhere on my problem.
I have a 91 Sub, and the wiper motor does NOT have the circuit board attached to it, like the newer ones. The problem is that the intermittent and high speeds of the wipers work very sparadically. Well, the high speed does not work at all. Sometimes the intermittent works, and pauses, sometimes it just doesn't work, and sometimes it doesn't stop. The only speed that works is the low speed. When i try to clean them, they spray, but don't move. I replaced the motor with a brand spankin new one, and they still do it, or i should say don't do it. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to go about fixing it.

Thanks in advance..

The controller for that unit is hooked to the steering column just behind the dash panel (metal plate) directly under the column.
It sounds stupid, but when was the last time you changed your wiper blades?? Old blades will stick to the windshield and make these unit do some really strange things. (Like stop for a few minutes after running for an hour, not stopping in the right spot, etc...) Also, binding linkage can cause problems.
The OEM manual has about 5-10 pages on diagnosing the wiper problems. I'll look in mine tonight and see if I see anything that matches your described problems.

I think it is the control box you were talking about. I disconnected it and then reconnected it, worked for a little, then died again. What would the actual name of that part be so that I can order a new one. Would that be the Wiper Switch? Thanks again for the help.
