ok this might seem like i stupid question but ill be the first to admit to how much of an ameture i am at this but im tryin to learn because id like to learn to work on my car my self, but anyway.... i was wondering if the catback exaust systems take away from a car or give to it. id think it would give to it because it lets the engine breath easier but ive heard some say its one of the biggest restrictions an engine could get. i was planning on this being my first mod after a positraction rear end which ill have in about a week so what should i belive about these systems 92rs told me this would be a good add on and ive heard many say hes an expert w/ the 305s which i happen to have in my 91 rs tbi please help!!!

you are exactly correct, the cat-back lets the engine breathe better. it reduces back pressure and thus increased power...

are you sure they werent talking about the converter itself?? Stock converters are restrictive, but if you are concerned about emiisions, most aftermarket cats are a flowthrough design and have very little restriction...

Well I suggested to him the edelbrock TES cat forward system, high flow cat, and flowmaster american thunder cat back system..I don't see any problem with restrictive flow, I think someone just gave him bad info.

I've heard that with the 3" you loose I bit of your low-end torque in exchange for the more high-end HP? Is this true?
