Im very new to DSMs and im learning as i go along, so please forgive my ignorance and lack of knowledge concerning these cars. I have a 99 gst, and this summer i plan to get a boost controller and BOV for my car. I really dont know which one i should get. Some people on this forum say get the 1g stock BOV and some say get Greddy or other aftermarket BOVs. I have the sam probelm as Scotsee. Forgive me, but i do not understand what a flanger is and does the UICP mean the Intercooler pipe that is connected to the BOV?
Basically, i wanna cheap BOV that will hold up to 15-16 PSI without leaking boost pressure. If I go with the 1g BOV, am i gonna have to upgrade the UICP right away because i dont have the money for that right now. I just hit 70,000 and i still need to replace my timing belt, so im kind of gonna be broke for a while. Can the 1g BOV hold 16 Psi? Is it easy to install, and if i do install it, am i gonna have to absolutely replace anything else? I dont plan on replacing my turbo, but maybe my fuel pump....as some people say i should do if im running more boost. Please help, and thanks in advance guys!

i think 15 psi is the max for a 1g, and thats all you'll need. UIP isn't nessasary

if your on a budget definetaly go for the 1g BOV, but if you have a little extral to spend get the Upper Intercooler Piping also, youll notice a good increase in responce from that. Do you want to go with a monual or electronic boost controller, im asking because if you have big plans for your car in the future you should hold off right now and save up for an electronic otherwise you could get a manual for around 35 bucks,

You can crush your 1g bov and it will hold more boost than u would ever want to run. (Check www.vfaq.com for crushing instructions) I would definetely upgrade the UICP when you upgrade the BOV. Otherwise you have to guy a flange to fit the stock 2g piping to the 1g bov. You can get this pipe for like 120$ which already comes with a 1g flange.
But, I would replace your timing belts, water pump, and tensioner before you do anything to your car. Its recommended you do it at 60k. Just make sure you take it to a place that has experience (Mitsu dealer).

Go with a hard UICP (upper intercooler piping) with a flange (place to bolt the BOV to) for the 1g. It will hold way more than 15psi, which was said above. It will do well for you, so look into getting that.

ya, definitly check out Dejon Tools UICP that will come flanged for 1g BOV's.

Buy the 1g bov.. .Does everything you need it to do better than the ones that cost 4x as much.. Theres better things to spend money on..

cool so i think im definately gonna go with the 1G BOV. Let me get this straight though, after buying the 1G BOV im gonna have to buy a flange to fit the 1G BOV on the 2G pipe? Where can i buy this flange and how much do they usually run for? I dont have the money right now to buy an aftermarket UICP so ill probably get that done next summer.

One thing that most people haven't mentioned on here... legality. I am going to write this from the position that you would have to deal with CARB mandates.
The 1G BOV while illegal in it's own right, would probably not raise eyebrows. It is obviously a factory component and the average smog tech doesn't memorize every component of every car. If you were to go aftermarket (as I have done) a few things change. First, you must make sure that the vent is routed back into the exhaust just like stock. Second, only the bravest of smog techs will even be willing to test it. I was turned down by four techs as soon as they saw the BOV (HKS SSQV - piece of crap). Even though it was routed back they didn't want their signature associated with my car should I ever get pinged by the police and sent to a smog referee.
Same thing applies to the UICP. As stupid as it sounds, replacing that pipe is technically illegal. I've run into a similar situation with my Injen intake. Injen went through the whole process and gives out CARB EO #s with their intake. Even with that, more smog techs turned me down for testing. Now imagine how many will be willing to test you with a pipe in there that is obviously not stock and has no CARB EO#.
Again, this is all for the information of us poor saps that have to suffer with CARB laws and don't have the intelligence to find a "special hook up" for smog testing.

BOVs dont route into your exhaust, so I'm going to assume you meant dumped back into the intake. ;)
People run 25-30 psi and low 11s or better on 1g BOVs. Good enough for most people, and you can put that mod money into more meaningful upgrades. If you ever outgrow the 1g BOV, there is no shortage of people willing to buy them. Dont waste 30 dollars on an adapter to run it on a shyte POS platic 1" wide shitbox 2g UICP. Spend the 99 bucks on a hard UICP that already has the 1g BOV flange on it, so the BOV simply bolts on. Running a hard pipe requires an upgraded filter like the K&N (stock airblox is too big for a hard UICP, hence that POS flattened out plastic tub of shit they give us from the factory for a uicp), which you should have before these mods anyway. ;)

LOL. Thanks for catching that. I even read it twice and missed it. Yes, BOVs go back in to the intake.

ya, and in CA, 99% of anything you do to mod your car out of factory bench specs and parts is illegal... whatever, i'm sure we all speed everyday anyways... and i always tell cops that stick their snouts in my shit that i bought it like that and it must have passed smog cuz i got registration tags, so...

Okay so i think im gonna get the 1g BOV and an aftermarket UICP....but if i dont have enough money right away....where can i get the flange at? Also, what is the best UICP for under $150? I have an intake and exhaust, and i plan to put a manual boost controller in.

Dejon Tool is your best bet for just and UICP. Don't remember the price off hand. Not many places make just an UICP. Most package it with a full intercooler set.

I have had my dejon tool sitting on my dresser for about 2 weeks. (motor blew the day I got it in the mail, booo!) www.dejontool.com has a deal right now on UICP+1g BOV (10$ off). The UICP "L" pipe only costs 100$. If you just want the flange, www.extrememotorsports.com sells them for 30$.

Cool man im definately gonna buy the 1g BOV and the UICP. As far as installing goes, is it easy to install? Also, is the dejontool UICP good quality?
