my friend is getting an RX8 and in my quest to save it from being fast & furioused, i've been named his chief mechanic. so i gotta figure out what a rotary engine is and how much different it is from a regular engine by july. if anyone wants to explain, please do.

the renesis sucks, that is what is in the rx8
the 13b was in the US rx7 and that motor is awesome

they moved the exhaust ports in the renesis i think and that took away some of the low end torque and they made the mistake of not turbocharging it

i think the renesis is better because it should( will take time to prove it) be more reliable and will do more mpg .Plus it has only about 30 hp less than the 13b without turbocharging. the intake/exhaust ports work better now since they are sealed better

The reason for moving the exhaust ports to the side housings was mostly emissions. Now theres a lot less overlap and a lot less unburned hydrocarbons being burned in the exhaust, which makes mother nature happy.

The reason it doesnt have the low end torwue is because its not turbocharged. It makes more torque than MY n/a rotary, so its an improvment. Turbocharging it would be a mistake, because of the really high compression rotors being used, and that fact that turbocharging a rotary is what really kills its reliabilty. Not directly, but it's amazingly easy to screw up when it comes to turboing a rotary.
