I'm looking to buy ethier a V6 Firebird or Camaro, I can't buy a V8 (Gas Prices & BAD MPG, Plus I'm 17 and insurence sucks anyways) I'm looking at 1995 and newer since I have a 1999 Tiburon right now
(The Tiburon Has Been Nothing But A complete Nightmare- Guess That's What I Get For Buying A Hyundai!)
I don't really want a mustang (too common and outdated in appearence)
And I DO NOT like Hondas or Imports all that much, so I'm going American.
Does the camaro or firebird V6 have any balls- what's the Horsepower and Torque figures? Hows the Aftermarket for them?
Finally which is better Firebird or Camaro?
I know that GM makes Owns Pontiac and Chevrolet; so in general they are the same.
But which is better?
Thanks In Advance!

I am pretty sure the 95s and up had the 3.8L which produces 200hp and a little more torque, Which is pretty good but the Firebirds and Camaros are heavier than any import so keep that in mind. Make sure it has the 3.8 and not the 3.4, but that was only used in 93 and 94, I think. Both have same engine and frame, so speed and handling is very close. So buy which ever one you thank looks the best. I personaly like the pre 98 camaros and post 97 Firebirds. As far as how does it feel when you give it hell? Ive never drove a 4th gen v6 but I had a 91 v6 firebird, it had a 3.1 but hey it got me around and looked good. Now i have a 02 ws6 T/A and its kicking my ass in insurance. over 2000 a year and thats in my dads name. Iam 19 and have to go to college just to afford to keep it. Need 2 new tires now $289 a piece :-( but iam going off subject. Good Luck in what ever you get.

Camaros and Firebirds from mid 95 on had 3.8 liter motors rated at 200 hp and 225 lbs/ft of torque. 95 was a transition year on the motor used. 93 to early 95 models use a 3.4 liter engine rated at 160 hp and torque of 200 lbs/ft. If you look at a 95 model you might try to get one with the 3.8 liter. I'm not sure of the exact quarter mile times, but a Firebird with a 3.8 will give a 3rd gen Camaro or Firebird equipt with a 305 a run for its money.
As for which is better, a Firebird or a Camaro, it really just depends on personal preference. The main difference is which body style you want most. Since 1982, Firebirds have used Chevy motors so both cars are pretty much the same mechanically.
I personaly prefer Firebirds because I like their look a little better. Also, I like that I don't see as many Firebirds running around. In my area I see Camaros all the time, but very few Firebirds. (Less Firebirds were made per year than Camaros.)

they are great cars, i got a 94 maro and love it. i would recommend going with a 96 if you want a little more man in your car. all the 96 v-6 camaroes were the 3.8, which was a little more powerful. also the interior was still the same as the 93-95 camaroes, which i think was better than what they changed it to in 97. from what i hear, though, is that there isnt much of a noticable difference between driving the 3.8 and the 3.4. i believe, but am not sure, that there are more aftermarket options for the 3.4 than the 3.8.
btw: v-6 camaroes are 16 second cars from the factory...
