would a 1993 grand am 3.1 standard beat a 86 isuzu impulse 2.0 turbo 5 speed manual

Why dont you race and find out?

duffman667
03-28-2004, 12:18 AM
i dont think it can because the grand am weighs anywhere from 2800-2950 and has 150hp with 170 pounds of torque. the isuzu has 160hp with 150 pounds of torque and weighs about 2300 pounds but then again if the grand am shifts better it may win but off of weight and hp the isuzu would win but just race and see its the best way to know

fugiot
03-28-2004, 03:17 AM
The Grand Am will win in the quarter mile by about 5 car lengths.

I would think this would be a driver's race. Try to keep with with shifts and if he is a sloppy shifter you would most likely take him.

HAHAHA....HAYELL NO! That Camaro(Z28 by the way) will destroy that Isuzu like it was nothing. Automatic or not.

:bs:

Or one ragged out trashed Camaro, one or the other.

fugiot
04-06-2004, 07:04 PM
Haha, nope don't think so. That Camaro wasn't racing or wasn't a Z28. If you beat your friend and he beat a Z28....then that means that you can beat the Z28. Which I doubt. How modified are both of your cars?...cause if you guys are stock or close to stock, a Z28 would rip you two a new asshole. If it was actually a V6 Camaro instead of a Z28, then alright, I believe you. That's possible.

this is going down in my books as the dumbest comparison and lie i've ever came across. is a impulse faster than a 2000 maro Z28.

No...nobody does. No certain type of cars own racing. Only individual cars.

Granted I am a fan of Toyota, fairly hardcore at that, but think about it.. A fully modified 4 cylinder engine vs. fully modified dual supercharged 350 block V8.. I love Euro cars but I still have to protect my roots..

ok so i messed up i typed z24 and it was a z28 i could care less if u guys dont beleave me all that matters is i have witnesses

-Josh-
04-07-2004, 07:28 PM
Witnesses dont do us on here a damn bit of good though do they. The only way anyone is going to believe you is if you have a video...And you dont. Your witnesses are no good on here, you dont have a video, you have no idea what your talking about, and if i ever here of some suzuki or isuzu or whatever beating a Camaro...I will never drive again, but it will never happen, unless there is thousands upon thousands of dollars invested in that car.

Why compare the best of domestic to the average of Japanese? Why not compare a dual-supercharged 350 block V8 to a Twin Turbo 2.6 litre Inline Six(Skyline), or a Twin turbo 3.0 V6(Supra)? There's nothing to "think about", it's all about preference.

Lets put it this way, would you at least agree that american muscle cars are one of the top vehicles to race with? In fact just today I read in my Mustang mag that one of the top drag mustangs has 1400 HP (Not WHP rating I am sure but it didnt specify exactly).. You have to admit its impressive power.. Anyone know if there exists a fastest race car in the world (Not counting those rocket cars that break the sound barrier but a real car)?

samandiar
04-08-2004, 02:35 AM
well, we can compare the best of american to the best of japanese. a 350 is not the best of ameircan. mine as well make it a 460, 454, 502, or the new 572 crate engine with 620hp stock from chevy. Arguing about american vs japanese cars is really getting old. they both have good points and bad points

LMAO wow.........somebody call the ambulance my side is splitting from laughing so much. You can be the best driver in the world and stick him in that impulse, and even give him a 2 car head start and he will still lose to a 2000 Z28. lol hell ask him to start in 2nd gear and he will still rape you.

you do know htat you yourself are forgetting some other top american engines. did someone forget about teh 514 from Ford pumping out 600 hp, or the 528 hemi pumping out 610?

what about merlin engines? Marine engines that will work and fit in cars. I THINK i remember reading about something like a 600+ cubic inch engine making around 1000 hp on pump gas. I could be mistaken, i read somethign about that a about 2-3 years ago.........

also, about the race of the impulse vs the Z28.... umm the only way I would believe that is if you got a video from inside the z28 to prove that it was racing you and showed that you beat it. Otherwise, I have no reason to beleive you.

Sure, I'll agree that Muscle cars are great to race against in a straight line. There are also crazy-fast Jap drag cars, such as the HKS 180sx with a skyline engine in it. Best run of 6.89 in the quarter. The point is....ANY car can be a good opponent wether it be on the strip, a track, or in a rally.

Like I said I have to protect my roots, and another personal note I feel strongly for jap cars in a rally over the muscle..

All you guys say is true but there is track heritage to muscle cars, not just straight line perf.

Boss 302 Mustang
302 Z28
Various Mopar products such as the Cudas and superbees

All track cars, and all performed very well. Now, you keep them for their purpose, and upgrade the suspension and put some modern tire on them..They'll give a lot of these imports a run for their money.. Point being, that not all muscle cars were built for straight line performance, in fact that didn't come until midway through the muscle car era.

samandiar
04-09-2004, 01:52 AM
Totally. There are countless examples of muscle cars that can handle. Pretty much anything with the ponycar layout, such as a 'cuda or a camaro, with a small-block and some new shocks and modern rubber will handle pretty well. Obviously that's an generalization, but whatever.

Dude, you read in your MUSTANG mag that Mustangs are top race cars. You have to realise that some mag's are biased to where they target the clientele. I'm sure if you read some Jap mag's (if there are some in your area) you'd get some biased opinion on their cars as well. Hey how about you read some German mag's, and let them tell you about how te Bugatti beats the Mclaren F1 or vice versa in other mag's. Who cares what mag's say about what car is the best 'race' car, even if this were true, why would it matter to you? Not like YOU own or have that model...

Don't mean to sound harsh but I'm irritated with the amount of ppl trying to denounce imports or domestics just because.

Sypherz28
04-09-2004, 01:52 PM
Woah slow down man I was only using that mustang as an example for what I was talking about.. Of all vehicles I would never say a 'Mustang' is the fastest.. Lets leave it at this, I am a very hardcore American Muscle fan and it seems many of you are not.. I can't change any of ya'lls opinions and ya'll can't change mine, I was just stating what mine were and seeing if anyone would agree.. With that said lets just end that, but my other question still stands..

Anyone know if there exists a fastest race car in the world (Not counting those rocket cars that break the sound barrier but a real car)?

Well sorry for all that but it had to end there before it became an import vs domestic thread. Anyways, I believe that the fastest car is the Bugatti or Mclaren F1....if I'm not mistaken I think it was the Bugatti who won that titiel and was in the world records for it.
