ok i have had a 95 camaro v6 which was my first car at the age of 16 then a girl ran into me and totaled that car...17 now...my dad got me a 99 z28...but since that he has quit driving his truck due to problems beyond control...so recently ive been thinking about what kind of car to get here are my picks(in no particular order):
1995-1999 eclipse gsx(somewhat cheap, reliable, good looks w/ aftermarket parts and with tuning VERY fast)
1991-1995 3000gt vr4(very expensive, nice looks stocks and w/ aftermarket, fast stock, and pretty reliable)
1997 corvette(very expensive, nice looks, lack of customizing abilities, fast stock, very reliable)
1993-1997 camaro z28 and/or ss(somewhat cheap, very reliable, good looks, not much customizing ability, somewhat fast)
1993-1997 trans am(somewhat cheap, very reliable, good looks, not much customizing ability, somewhat fast)
opinions on what i should get would be greatly appreciated but now its time for my real question
if i get a gsx it would probably be around 70,000-80,000 miles + with a high mileage car that i will assume has been raced since lets face it who can refuse to race a fast car... what common problems come with the gsx's with high mileage, common mishaps, and also assuming i race like every other 17 year old
my other question what are easy, cheap ways to make these gsx faster cause i hear people say you can make them 12 sec cars with oly $2000 any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks

if i was u i would get a 1st gen eclipse. less problems, and much faster. pluse you can pick one up for a lot less. and they have a better motor than the 2ng gen so i think any ways. if you would like i have a 90 gsx with a few mods done that iam going to be selling soon. e-mail me at dreamerparoz@aol.com

I disagree. 1st gen's will have MORE problems because they are older, and they are not much faster if at all. The motors don't differ much at all.
For the record, 350 chevy is THE most customizable engine, so don't think there are no aftermarket parts.
Anyway, i'd get a 97-99 GSX over any of those cars. If you buy a VR4/corvette/newer Z28, SS, or WS6, you probably won't have any money for mods anyway.
Last, stop worrying about reliablity. There is no such thing as a reliable fast car.

I was paying full retail for parts when I went 12s on 1800 in mods. But the latter part, buying the right things, is the biggest point I try to make. Upgrade what needs to be upgraded, and leave the rest alone until it becomes an issue. I bet if you get creative with the search button you can find at least 2 threads where I list the exact mods I ran when I ran 12.7-12.8 on 1800-1900 in parts. ;)
