hey, i am new to import computers
i saw this 91 prelude si for sale, engine is kaput, and my uncle plans to put a crv engine in it...
B20B 2.0 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1997 126hp@5400rpm 133tq@4300rpm '97-'98 CR-V (USA)
vs
B20Z 2.0 16V DOHC VTEC PGM-FI 1997 146hp@6400rpm 143tq@4500rpm '98-'01 CR-V (USA)
the engine my uncle plans to swap, theres no vtec on it, is there anything similar to vtec computers that i can add to it to make more hp? i would like something better and faster than a vtec computer if available

Do you know what VTEC is? if not, read on:
VTEC is a variable cam lift that allows for low, econo gas mileage rpms with a low lift lobe, then at higher rpms it switches to a high lift lobe on the cam for some high rpm power....Yes it is controlled by the computer but the actual vtec function is hardware on the cylinder head.
As for making more power out of a b20, you CAN put a vtec head on it, but it is way more in depth than just plopping it on there. There are other options, but it all matters how much $$ youre willing to put in and how much power you want!

The B20Z is not a VTEC motor and it will not fit in the prelude. You are very limited in what motor will fit, because of the way the motor sits in the engine bay.

damn...
so which engine will fit? i would like at least 140hp w/ or w/o vtec (easy swap, not looking forward to h22a, they look like a pain in the ass)
if i dont have vtec, can i use a computer like one of these
http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/88_91preludeelectronics.html
will they give me more hp? which one of those will you recommend?

You could use a V-afc but that is kinda a ghetto way of doing it. The best thing for you to do is do some searching on motor swaps for 91 prelude. Try looking in the prelude section.

will venom 400 do anything? how much hp will it give?

no you need something to activate VTEC ie. a vtec ecu. Do some research.

It's a piece of crap. Another fuel dumper, hence why they made it so easy to take out for emmissions testing.

aight fk the venom4000 then
i did some research and it says i can just add a chip in the ecu to gain more hp
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33597&item=2469603050
i want to know, will the apexi thingy add more hp?
i am just looking to get another 20hp or more from just computers.
http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/88_91preludeelectronics.html#greddy <--- does that add hp?
a list of computers for non-vtec engines that will give me more hp would be nice, so i can look them up
how bout this? http://www.nopionline.com/nopistore/dsp_part_detail.cfm?vmakeid=140&vmodelid=040&vcatyear=1991&vnopinum=514%2B0035&vTitle=HONDA%20Prelude%201991

What about a VTEC controller?

vtec controller are junk unless u do some engine building like cams pistons etc. honda set up the vtec to where it was the most efficent and gave the most gains.

Simply adding a chip doesn't make the motor run right with your mods, most of hte aftermarket chips, are just designed to input more fuel, they get bad milage, and run rich as hell. The VAFC won't just add horsepower, it has to be dyno tuned with a wideband o2 to get anything out of it, same as ANY management system piggyback or otherwise. As far as controlling your vtec, why? Do you think you can do a better job than Honda at choosing vtec points? Not without a dyno, and an idea of what you are doing.

first of all before we get into any of this, a CRV motor will not even drop into the early prelude without heavy modification, the mounts on the b20a5 and the b20b from the crv are completly different, i wouldnt even waste the amount of time you would need to fabricate parts so the swap would work.

about the vtec thing, i just had a misunderstanding...
done some research and it all makes sense now...
last week i ordered the jdm b20a, about 30-35k miles on it
it should be in my lude soon...
and while i was researching, i was told that the engine runs really rich, so im going to get the s-afc to control the fuel/air ratio
adding an air intake, (cold air comes later) 4-2-1 header, 2.5" pipe system, straight thru muffler, lightweight flywheel, exedy organic clutch, adjustable cam gears, cam shafts, coilovers, shocks, strut bar, rear sway bar, cambers, 18" wheels w/ tires which will be about 3-5% lighter than stock wheels w/ tires, advancing the ignition timing, 93 octance fuel...
will be about 130ish whp/tq
should do about low 15's in 1/4
i know thats kinda slow for a 1/4, but i'll be looking forward to adding a turbo later on, gotta do more research on that... should bring me to 13-14's in 1/4 @ 8psi? also i am wondering... when adding a turbo, how much % will it eat gas?
did i do my research or what? :)
