Anyone know how the brake pedal return spring is supposed to be mounted. I have a brand spanking new assy to go along with my new frame, but have no idea how the spring attaches to return the brake pedal to the correct height. One end attaches to the brake pedal at the base and the other???? Do i weld a plate on the floor to attach the spring???

Help...After a 3 year restoration i can see the light, i just can't stop when i get there...

Old vw's don't leak they just mark their territory.

To get the spring on you have to take the assembly apart by driving out the pin that holds the pedal to the assembly. The hooked end of the spring goes around the pedal, the straight piece at the other end lies flat against the floor pan facing forward. The pedal height is determined by a metal pedal stop that is bolted to the pan in front of the pedal assembly. It is slotted & can be moved forward and back to set the brake & clutch pedal height. I will suggest you leave the hooked end of the sprinfg off the brake pedal when installing the cluster, then after it's bolted in use a screwdriver to pull the spring around the pedal. This makes installation alot easier.
