Porsche 956 Progress

I've finished the engine bay of the Rothman's 956. I added some wiring and plumbing and scratch built the brake ducts and hoses.

That is very nice, I really want to see the updated pics.
For uploading pics i use http://www.imageshack.us/. you don't have to sign up only prob is you have to keep up with your url's to the pics.
Since they give you the url with the img tags i save them to a word document under the correct heading to keep up with them if i need them later.

You can get a great deal of detail for these Tamiya kits, especially aftermarket decals!

Thanks. The engine block is Tamiya TS-17 Gloss aluminum covered with a coat of dullcote. The transmission is Tamiya T-31 Titanium Gold.
The air shroud is Tamiya TS-49 Bright Red. The air plenum is Alclad Polished Aluminum. The chassis floor is Alclad Aluminum and the oil tank is Alclad Chrome

Yes it will eventually have the covers on but I will take pics with and without them.

"I love these old group c cars, I wish their were more of them to build." Did you ever check out Hasegawa. They had some Porsche 962C in different versions. There are also different decal sets available for the 956, f.ex. by Studio 27.

Very nice! I think they look best with the aero covers on the front wheels only- thats how i left mine. I wanted this kit rather than the yellow and black one, but couldnt find it on the shelves anywhere- its good to see tamiya are re-releasing some of the group C cars :)

The white is Krylon white from the can over their white primer. The blue is Krylon Regal Blue airbrushed. I like Krylon for solid colors because they have much denser pigment than Tamiya(in other words they cover better) and they don't rub through so fast, Their white is on of the whitest around to. Krylon's gloss seems a little deeper than Tamiya also.

Thanks for the Krylon tip. I picked up some white and tried it on a Jules 936 from Lemans '81, I'm very pleased with how well it sprays and covers. Your 956 looks superb!!!!!! Very clean build and I love the "subtle" panel lines.

Thanks, there is more sanding with Krylon but it really is good paint that rubs out beautifully. And it's very cheap compared to other paints. Try the Semi-Gloss black for chassis.

Thanks. They are the kit pieces. I always use a black marker around the edges of headlight covers and windows, it makes them look thinner and more in scale.

I'm using 3-4 mm Plastruct wire painted silver for the radiator hoses and some leftover tamiya vinyl tubing for the small black hosing, and the larger tamiya vinyl tubing covered with bmf then with clear red/blue for the connecters. But I've hit a wall and can't seem to find a good source for the braided hoses and more complex connecters. Can you help me out with a good source?

The braided hoses I used are miniature coax cable used it in electronics. There are after market source like Detail Master that sell all types of hoses and wires. If you live near an electronics supply store you can buy it cheaper on rolls.I once bought a 100ft. roll of 30ga wirewrap wire(good for spark plug wires etc.)for $6.00. I made some of the connectors from styrene tube and rod and smaller ones from wire and heatshrink tubing. Heat shrink tubing is great because you can heat it and stretch slowly to the size needed then let cool. Don't stretch it to fast or far or it breaks.
