Hi Brianhsr ,
Your rear seat backing does fold down , theres a strap in the trunk you pull to release the seat located near the speakers. Fold the seat down and there will be a plastic trim sorounding the edges of where the seat was , it is held on by push pins , remove the push pins to remove the trim peice. Then theres the rear deck cover , since the pins that hold the trim actually hold down the deck cover as well all you have to do is lift the front and pull and the cover comes off. The speakers may have simple snaps that you depress to remove them from the housing and a wire harness clip to remove the speakers from the deck. Hope that helps.
P.S. - dont touch that lil trunk light bulb , it burns instantly.

your car is probably like mine and there is no release...there are three L type brackets near the top of the seat on the back that you will need to pry up to get the back of the seat off...then you can just push this down out of the way for now...and the cover over the speakers should come off with alittle force....then jsut unscrew the speakers...install the new ones...put the cover back on...then line the three brackets back up....and either have someone hold the seat back...or wedge something in there so it will stay pushed all the way towards the trunk...and then go and rebend the brackets back.

The 93's were the same way. Screwed in from the top which required the rear side panels and the rear trim deck to be removed just to get the speakers out. The speakers rested on the rear window deck. When I replaced the speakers I picked up so locking tabs from Home Depot and slid them over the holes and mounted the speakers from the trunk side instead. Figured it was much easier for the next time the speaker come out than wasting the hour dismantling all the trim in the back.

Well I had to pull the bottom seats up. unscrew the bolt holding both seatbelt locks, which also held a loop coming off the bottom of the back seats. That made it able to pull off the back seats. Then I had to remove half of the back trim to get the back cover off. after that it was pretty easy. I removed the factory speakers and installed my new(er) ones. I had to cut the plug off the speaker wire and tape together my plug things for my speakers. I wasnt sure what wires were + and - but I found a wiring diagram for the 2001's monsoon system. all the same colors were in my car so i figured it was worth a shot, so far so good.
Putting everything back together was a real pain in the ass. There are 3 push pins on each side of the top trim that sits on the rear deck cover. I broke one on each side removing them and broke another on the driver side while putting it on. Then lining up the bottom trim on the driver side was a pain in the ass but after dicking with it for a half hour in the freezing cold green bay weather, i finally got it. Then i put the seats back on and all was done.
Thanks Justin0717 for the help and insight. I really dont understand why pontiac made this such a pain in the ass to do. If they would have just made the speakers bottom mounted like a cavalier this would have been soo much easier.
