Need Help...

I just got 18s on my 2000 galant, but the back tires always seem to rub on my car, every time i hit a bump in the road. is there any way that i can stop that, or do i just have to deal with it? thanks

Or you can take it to a body shop near you and ask them if to do it professionally if you dont want to deal with rust in the future!

Ive rolled my fenders myself and now i have to deal with rust... but luckly me im going to get a wide body and just cut the fenders out... :lol:

what do u think would be cheaper to do..a wide body or roll the fenders? when you say wide body, you talkin about a body kit right or just the fenders?....excuse the dumbness, don't know much about cars.

well it all depends on what you want... if you dont have the cash for a wide bodykit or fender flares, then just roll your fender for now... its cheap and easy...

if you get a wide body kit or fender flares its going to cost you more money because you have to install it on your car then get it painted.

No wide body kits made for the Mitsu galant. Theres only 1 that i know of on a 8th gen galant but it was all custom done

where is the best place to get fender flares and what kind should i get, i guess how many inches?

No-one has mentioned stiffer suspension? Is this not an option?

if you are having this much trouble then i suggest sell the rims and get ones that fit!!!...

you would probally have to buy universal fender flares since i couldnt find anything on the galant.
i could be wrong but im a honda guy not a galant guy... lol... about the size of the flares you would have to call the company who makes/sells it and ask them...

yes it is but it will still rub because of the wrong offset on the rims...

you're going to ruin your front suspension with 18s. How many miles on your car? if you're over or close to 100K you will void any factory warranty (drivetrain) due to the effects on you transmission. 18's bad... lol

Several models of 8g in the UK are supplied with 17" as standard. I can't believe 18" are that much of a problem unless your offset is far too big of your tyre profile is too high. If your offset is too big, then you put extra strain on the suspension because you increase the bending force on the components.

I didn't know 17s were standard in Uk. How cool. I currently have 17" American Racing on mine (Galant). Most of our sedan style Mitsubishis come with base suspensions. That's why they come with 15" wheels. Our performance Galant [230hp GTZ] does have a sport-tuned suspension, and it comes with 16" wheels. The reason for this (I assume) seems to be balanced in favor of comfort over aggressive response. Mostly, for damping out bad stretches of road [which is a reason many people like Mitsus over Accords/Camrys]. This suspension(s) is very forgiving to driver errors, such as braking hard in the middle of a turn; while some cars would spin out under these circumstances, you should have no trouble controlling Mitsus. It's predictable and safe, just not as much fun as a high-performance sports sedan. So you're right about the suspension components, but also.... those boring, standard wheels and tires are highly developed components that have been integrated into the physics of the suspension. The concern is that the suspension itself was never designed for expanded hammering... which is what you get with aftermarket wheels [they avg weigh 10%(even if alloy) particularly the overseas ones. All that unsprung weight exposes the bearings, spindles, and more to unanticipated stress. SEMA has tested many BWSSTs(as they list them) with results of cracked suspensions for anything +3 size and more [which for a Galant, 18s would be].
Then you have, acceleration. You have to include the rotational inertias. Bigger wheels takes a second bite out of acceleration. Their added reluctance to spin is equivalent to four times the increase in wheel and tire mass. This added weight also means they trace the road's profile less accurately, degrading cornering and braking, and guarantees the erosion of ride quality. Bottom line is when you toss stock wheels away, you spin the roulette wheel of ride, handling, and braking performance. +1 to +2 sizes means you keep factory stats...anything more, you don't.
