Stupid "Easy open" soup cans

For a while I've been bitching about the new "easy open" soup cans with the little tab that you pull up (which is supposed to puncture the top, then you pull back to peel off the top). Anyways, who the hell decided these would be a good idea? My fingernails are rarely long enough to get under the tab so I have to use a knife or something to lift it up, and even when my fingernails are long enough, they're not strong enough to lift the tab and they end up folding backwards and hurting like the devil. When I finally do get the tab up, I have to yank so hard to peel off the top that it ends up splashing soup juice all over my shirt
My disapproval of the tops reached a new high today. After struggling to get the tab up, it started to lift, but instead of puncturing the top, it just broke off  I ripped out my can opener to use on the can, but the new easy-open lids have a new style lip around them that doesn't let you use a can opener. Finally I had to use my can opener on the bottom of the can - should have just done that in the first place.
Easy-open cans - :thumbsdow
Just let me use my freakin' can opener.

Me too. I've eaten soup about 4 times in the last two days and haven't had trouble once. And if you're having trouble use a butter knife to help pry it open.

Here's a trick, one you get that tab up, puth your thumb down in the middle and use that kinda as leverage, so that it peels open instead of the whole thing coming part at once.
I personally love em, because with 2 roommates, you only have a 33% chance of finding the can opener in the first place.

LOL! :lol2:
Me thinks I'd end up with a few leaves and twigs and not much broth in my soup that way though :D
I usually do use a knife to help pry the thing up but then the tab always breaks off. However next time I successfully get the tab up, I'll try the "reverse open with thumb" trick :p

that sucks hardcore, but like crazyjay...i can't really sympathize either:p
i've actually never had any problems with soup cans knock on wood....probably because that's my lunch everyday.....no BROTH ends up on my clothes when i'm standing in front of the microwave in the student lounge but it seems like you're putting too much pressure on your nails man...have you tried using your fingertip to grip it rather than your nail? it works for me everytime

You would be suprised. They manage to pull it off all the time over here. It really has to be fresh or it tastes like ass. Sometimes there is just bad fish period. Too tough, grainey, or "fishy"(lighter colored fish isn't as oily, and has no real fishy taste).
Normal dinner at my house:
Okonomiyaki
Yakisoba
Curry Rice
Fish/rice
Ramen
Udon
Nabe (seafood, or kimchee)
thats about it on the norm.....
