Crown VIc -"check engine"

Hi!
I am new to the list, and a fairly new Ford owner - I've always had GMs, but got a deal I couldn't resist on an 89 Country Squire wagon with the 5.0. I have 4 kids and am not into minivans, so this was perfect!
My questions: The "check engine" light (the orange one) has been coming on after about 20 minutes of operation. On my GM's I know where the block is that I can plug a jumper wire in and count the blinks. Where would I find that on my CV, and where would I find the codes?
The light just started coming on 2 days ago, and of course, I am scheduled for my state emissions inspection on Friday!
THanks in advance for any help!

Go to AutoZone and they will test it and read the codes for you for free.

I am having the same problem, the check engine light comes on and stays on without reason. When I disconnect the battery, an re-connect it, the light goes off and stays off for a few weeks. It seem that when I take a curve too fast, it comes on, any clue why?

I am having the same problem with "check engine" light. Just started today! Where do I begin to troubleshoot? Can I take it somewhere that can tell me the problem by computer analyzer? I don't no squat about these cars P71, except for they are fun to drive. HELP!!!

Thank you JBarry, for your tip on autozone. My problem with "check Engine" was solved. Turns out my pressurized gas cap of all things, wasn't sealed properly when the wife got gas last time in car. AutoZone diagnosed problem in a flash with hand held computer analyzer. Thanks again J Barry

place a black sticker over the light.
