2003 Caravan Power Point Wiring

Hi Everyone!
I have a 2003 Caravan which has 2 power points in the dash console (one is hot when key on and one hot all the time), and one in the rear on the side panel behind the sliding door on the drivers side (hot only when key on). The owners manual says that if you want, the dealer can easily change the rear one to be hot all the time. Does anyone know how this is done. Surely there must be some simple change or they would not mention this in the manual. Since the van is an 03, alldata does not have it on line yet.

I would like to use the rear power point without the key.

Any help appreciated!

Easy fix for the one in back at least. Under the hood at the fuse panel there is a fuse for the rear power outlet. There are 3 openings and the fuse comes from the factory with the fuse in the two openings marked key. If you take the fuse out and put it over one space to the opening marked battery it is then hot all the time. Just look and you will see it. Easier to do than describe.

As for the front, my buddy's van had only one outlet up front (mine has 2 one hot all the time and one with the key). He wanted the outlet hot all the time. We found that both connectors are there on the wiring harness, but the one for the outlet to be on with the key is plugged into the back of the outlet. You can swap plugs and make the front one hot all the time. But, the connectors have a tiny plastic tab to prevent plugging the wrong plug into the wrong outlet. Simple fix is to take a razor blade and trim off the plastic tab so the hot all the time plug goes into the back of the outlet.

Hope this helps.
