HP and 0-60 calculators

I find this on internet yesterda , don't know If I can trust on It but i think it's pretty good to have an idea :smile: .

The DSM.org one is surprisingly accurate. Of all the poeple I have seen that dynoed and raced within a couple weeks, its always within 5-10 hp. Not too shabby. But you need to know the real weight of the car with you in it. Which means you have to put it on a scale ( my track has one).

You can also go to those truck weight stations on the freeways. They will weight your car for you. Sometimes the guy is an ass and he wont.

Those are calibrated to weigh some big ass trucks though (tens of thousands of pounds), so I'm not sure how accurate they are with a 3000 pound car. But its better than nonthing! I saw one once when I was driving through some other state (dont have them here at all) and I was tempted to try it to compare, since I know what my car weighs. PAssed it before I got a chance though...

is the hp at dsm.org measured at crank or wheel? I want to know how much hp i need to make to pass 13's. from carpoint.com a stock '97 GST Spyder (my car) weighs about 3142 lbs, anyone know if it's accurate?

These calcs dont know your drivetrain loss, so of course they give you wheel HP. Also, you cant trust the listed weights for your car, you have to weight it with some known amount of fuel and you in it. For example, my GSX weights 3300 pounds with me in it, with a quarter tank of fuel. Etc. But that weight may be close enough to get you an idea of what it will take to run 13s, since you arent looking for an exact number anyway. Keep in mind that every 100 lbs will change your HP figure by about 10.

Additionally, ET is too inconsistent to use to figure out HP, or vice versa. Driver technique, traction, etc. Expecially on a FWD. Use trap speed instead. If you use ET to figure out what HP you need to run 13s its going to assume you have an AWD car with about a 1.7 or 1.8 sixty foot, in my expereince. ;)
