4ac tranny?

i have heard that if you can't find a 4ag tranny a 4ac rwd tranny will work just it won't have the gearing of the gts and the speedo might not work...... but the car will run.... can any one back this up as fact or fiction........ cause i can't seem to find an tranny for my 4ag and was wondering if this could be an option. thanks
