As I talked to my co workers today I had a revolation mitsubishi is the chrystler of japan. They both make cars of very questionable quality but thats not where the simaliarities end. They are also looked appon with alot of sceptisim from the rest of the car community and it most cases quite rightly so. It brings me back to a conversation I had with one of the managers in our cities largest engine rebuilders. He was telling me that of all the engines they rebuild the mitshu engine in the turbo eagle talons and eclipses have the most cylinder head cracking problems. Not only this but the core price for them is astronomically high. i guess this could be explained by the fact that their is so much demand for good cores on the market. I thought his would be the best place to descuse this because you guys probably are more familiar than anyone with mitsubitshi's increadable quality problems

as a matter of fact for a while mitsubishi was literally the chrystler of japan and vice versa, they shared many components and as soon as chrystler started building mitsubishis in the US based on Japanese blueprints things started going wrong. The first generation of DSM(Diamond Star Motors) cars (talon, eclipse, laser) were mostly built in japan and have a much more reliable engine than the second generation turbo's. As a matter of fact a very popular thing for 2nd gen eclipse/talon owners is to swap in a 1st generation head as a precaution before heavy modification. The japenese built 4g63 in the lancers were much better than their US built eclipse 4g63 counterparts after 1994. As soon as DSM dissolved mitsubishi quality started to go up, and chrystler is doing a little better as well. I guess the two just werent meant to be together =)
