I recently purchased a '94 Jimmy with what I think is a fatory alarm. I cannot turn my ignition key to the "accessory" position, the driver side door does not activate the interior lights (even though the door switch is wires) and I have no idea how to change (if possible) any delay settings. The alarm resets itself every minute and thats a pain in the ~``. Does anybody have any suggestions? Its a magor annoiance but I dont want to totally disarm the system.

What does your remotes say? Also, check to make sure the door switch works. Pull it out and check it.

I have the factory keyless entry remote. I removed the door switch and checked for power from the white lead...there didn't seem to be any. There's a second lead that I don't know what its for. I believe it's for the alarm because I can lock the doors and shut the driver's door and the alarm churps to signal it is on. Also, on a recent trip to a salvage yard I found a 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer with some of the same alarm equipment that I have. I say some because alot of parts had been canibalized already. And I have a friend with a 1987 Chevy S-10 Blazer with what appears to be the same system. Thanks!!!

Dude, you are kinda hard to understand. You never told me if you actually have OEM remotes. Does it have the chevy emblem on it or does it say GM on it, or what? No factory alarm I know does what you state and I have been doing alarms/remote starts for a long time. Now, you could have something like an AM5 alarm unit from DEI that is a piggyback system that ties into the factory keyless enty. Do you have a red light on the dash? Look under the dash for a little black valet button. You say that the lights do not come on when you open the door? Take out the pin switch and check it. They are very simple grounding switches and they fail alot. Not sure what you mean when you say you found another wire there and you lock the doors???? What color is it? What happens if you take that to ground or the white wire? I think the white wire will either rest at (+) or nothing at all. I can't remember right off the top of my head. Try to respond and be a little more clearer and precise in what you state and also your grammer. Don't take it the wrong way but I need to understand your writing. :uhoh:

Dude, sorry for the misunderstanding. The remotes I have are the original factory GM remotes (OEM). They have the GM logo on them. Yes I have a red light that blinks on my dash (above my 4 X 4 switch). I will have to look under the dash for a valet switch. When I open the driver's door the interior (dome/courtesy) lights do not come on. When I open any of the other three doors these lights do come on. If the alarm is on and I open the driver's door the alarm does not go off. If I open any of the other three doors when the alarm is set then the alarm will sound. When I pulled the pin switch I get no current from the white wire. I do not remember what color the other wire is. When I ground the white wire nothing happens, no lights, not even a spark, no reading on my hand held multimeter either. I do not know what the second wire is for on the driver's door pin switch. Nothing happened when I grouded that wire. The alarm system is set to self arm one minute after turning off the engine or disarming it by my remote. If the alarm is set and I exit from the drivers door the alarm does not go off. If I exit from any other door the alarm does go off. When the alarm is set (either automatically or by remote) my parking and liscense plate lights flash and there is a churp from the alarm loud speaker. Is there any way for me to identify this AM5 alarm from DEI? Would it say anything on the loud speaker attached to my cruise control vacuum bottle mount in my engine compartment? Is there anthing I can look for that could help me identify the unit? And, if it is the AM5 from DEI, can these units be programabled to self-set longer than one minute? I appreciate your help and I hope I was clearer in explaining this stuff to you this time. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!1

No problem. I would guess then that you have a VKE alarm which might be either a DEI or Code Alarm unit. Here's the DEI keyless entry unit. I want you to see the remotes. http://www.batee.com/corvette/keylessentry/index.shtml
here's one of the alarms... http://store6.yimg.com/I/wholesaleaccess_1756_4206806
Look under the dash for the alarm brain. You will see wires that do not seem like they are not OEM. Sometimes they'll be in wireloom or just black tape. YES, these alarms can be set to either be self-arming not not. Also, if your driver's pin switch worked, it would not arm until that door is closed. You'll have to trace the white wire in the pin switch to see where it is bad. I just had to bypass one on a '95 S-10. It was the passenger side.

Dude, Sorry to do this to you,.....but these are not the remotes I have. The ones I have are the exact ones that came from GM. They are the OEM/Factory units with the GM part number listed on the back of the remote. They are the same unit for my Jimmy as what came with my Blazer. The local GM dealership even told me they could reprogram my old Chevy remotes to work with my GMC Jimmy. I looked under the dash, in my glove compartment and along the tray under my dashboard. I cannot find a valey switch. The crazy W.Pa. weather will prevent me from pulling the door pin and see what color the other wire is this weekend. I hope to pull the kick pannel and see if maybe the wire was cut or disconected or something. Also, I think the brains of the alarm is under the dash by the stearing column. So I hope to pull the cover and see if I can identify the unit. Do you know of any unit that works with the direct from GM remote units?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP...I REALY DO APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh, no problem. We'll figure this out. Well, maybe! Well, I will tell you that there is NO facotory red light on a '94 S-10. I should know, I had a loaded tahoe LT edition and also worked on plenty of them. So, that being said, I am sure the alarm is aftermarket. To answer your question if there are any add on alarms for your ride? Yes! I know DEI has the AM1 unit among others. This is one of them.... http://store6.yimg.com/I/wholesaleaccess_1756_4231880 It simply used the pulses from the door locks to get it to arm or disarm unless you have it set to passive arm. Take the kick panel off and start tracing wires. If you can give me some model numbers, I might be able to help. Here's a link to DEI's web on Automate alarms. http://directed.com/guides/igs.asp
