my poor car

yea so at about 11:30 this morning I'm on my way to work... driving down the road and I come around the corner and about 100 yards away this guy is in the middle of the road. well it is kind of a back road and doesn't have a center line so I was just expecting him to move over as I came you know, well he didn't, so I hit the breaks and come to a complete stop with my car half in a ditch and the guy comes half way over into my lane and hits the front driver side of my car. and to make it worse he was in like a 78 cadalac(sp?) so its a yacht of a car, so even though he barely hit me, it tore a huge chunk out of my front bumper, wrinkled up my hood, made the headlight unit tilt all wierd and get stuck, pulled everything to the drivers side about half an inch, including the passenger side fender, made my driver side fender crumple up, left flat spots on my tires from the skid, and even bent the "frame"(not sure exactly what to call it) between the headlights right next to where the air intake comes to the front of the car...

I'm gonna try to get some pictures of it before its fixed, if so I'll try to post them, but I'm just glad his insurance has to pay for it, cuz I think they might say its totaled and pay for the car, then I'll have to buy it back at salvage price and fix it, but I'll end up with more money in the end I bet... anyways, I'll try to get pics soon

sorry to hear that soyo. I hate idiots like that. How old was the guy and did he try to give you any lame excuse? Well I hope you can come out on top like you think you can.

he told me he was 81, and he tried to tell me a gust of wind blew him over... what is that, a gust of wind, he was going north, I'm going south, the wind was going north... what gust of wind pushed him sideways? especially in his huge car...

anyways all he was worried about was that he missed his 11:35 tee time... old people suck sometimes

well the insurance company is being gay and STILL hasn't looked at the car, and for some reason I can't upload pictures, so hopefully that will be fixed soon and you can check them out

anyone have any advice on ways to make insurance companies give me more money for the damages or the car? :)

insurance company comes in the morning to check out the car, we'll see what happens, I'm trying to upload pictures but it won't work for some reason, and I can't seem to find a mod that knows... *sigh* oh well I'll keep you updated

Well... I guess what you might want to do is just exaggerate the problem. Things that can be repaired, say they need to be replaced, unless of course your chassis is bent or something. You might want to tell them that because that's a big indication that the car is going to need serious repairs. just overwhelm them with your knowlege about the car, and show them what's wrong.

Insurance claim adjusters are not stupid. . . They will know it's a rotary and they will try to save themselves as much as possible. Your best bet is to take it to a bodyman you know and have an estimate done, before they take it to someone they know. . . Show them the estimate and there isn't much they can do except try and get you to slip up in a statement somehow, and they are trained to do that. Good luck Soyo.

PS. Bribe the bodyman, get the most expensive estimate you can get without totaling it, well. . . unless it's totaled that is.

damn, that is a really really good idea.... forget what I said, get a bodyman you know to say what I said. I like that bribing idea... I should try that more often.

The guy across the street from me owns a classic car restoration shop so I didn't have to bribe em :evillol: . . . He kicks ass, right now he is helping me paint my car. Oh yeah and he did the estimate when I was in a wreck in My sisters car this winter. :naughty:

wish someone would have had this idea yesterday before they came, but if they estimate it low I can always go somewhere and get an estimate and appeal it... so far they are being gay about it so we might have to go to court... gets worse everyday... I hate old people and insurance companies now!

Yeah, you have to be proactive with that shit, they are cunning evil heartless highly trained SsOBs.

What are they taking you to court for? They didn't trick you into saying anything incriminating did they? Have you already had the recorded phone conversation with his adjuster? Are they planning on arguing for no/dual fault? Are they saying it was your fault? What kind of court are they taking you to?

Soyo
03-31-2004, 07:41 PM
well no court as of yet... but they are trying to claim dual fault cuz I was speeding, but I came to a complete stop before the guy ever hit me so it really was no factor, especially since he was half way in my lane... but yea I did the recorded phone convo with my insurance company, but not theres yet, have to do that one tommorrow I think, anyways I still can't load my pics, I've e-mailed 3 mods, only 1 replied and they didn't know... so who knows if I'll ever get an answer

and no I didn't say anything incriminating, I didn't even say my speed, I just said I didn't know how fast I was going but that I fully stopped before he hit me... so I should be good to go whether we go to court or not(as long as I don't screw up while on the phone with them)

Ok, if you were or werent speeding, noone knows. . . That means you tell them you weren't, you just remembered, you were not speeding, 100% positively sure of that. . . Make sure you don't tell that to their Adjuster, do tell him the guy was in your lane, you were not in his, and that you were at a complete stop, elaborate on that, A COMPLETE STOP, don't let the bastards miss it.

well I left 153 ft of skid marks... speed limit is like 35 and they say 150ft of skid equals 55mph heh... but I just say I don't know cuz I don't know for sure :)

skid marks don't mean much, road condition and tire compound can vary those

Soyo
04-01-2004, 07:55 PM
yea, I do have 3 bad and 1 horrible tire... and it was downhill... might have to add that in haha
