Hi Im just getting started in street racing and want to know what some good addons I should buy to get my car going faster. I already have a K&N cold air intake. Note it is a V6. not a V8.

The best bang for the buck mod you could do is sell your car and buy a V8. But if you really cant do that then the first thing you should do is tell everyone what kind of car you actually have just saying a V6 is too vague.

what kind of car do you have?

sell your car and buy a v8. what are you going to put that v8 in, then? ;)

seriously, what do you drive?
go to the forum for your car and search for threads on upgrades. you'll be impressed with what that little search function can do.

normally i would wholeheartedly disagree with what sean26 said but in your case he's right. go buy a v8 to put in that car.

But isnt a V8 engine alot, cuz you have to do other mods as well? And I can tgo buy a z28 or SS cus the insurance is way to much

Well, then there isn't much you can do till you can afford a faster car.

Sorry, But you have to pay to play.

There's only so much you can do to the V6 Mustang/Camaros. Before long you've spent more on it to make "fast" than it would of cost you to buy a V8 version of the car which would of been a better starting point.

Vortec makes superchargers for the GM 3800. But that will give you about 50HP more. But ur better off getting a z28 or SS. If not then get an older model with an LT1. Oh yea auto or stick cause if u have auto then dont even bother LOL

There is a healthy aftermarket for the GM corporate 3800 series V6, however it's mostly based around the supercharged Bonnevilles, Gran Prixs, Rivieras, and Regals. That's not to say it can't be made potent, but you really picked an uphill battle compared to a V8 Camaro.

However, that's all if you're a straightline guy. If you want to carve corners, all the tricks of the V8 Camaros apply to your car as well (save for some differing exhaust brackets and so forth). Bigger sway bars, larger brakes, stiffer springs, and polyurethane bushings are all good ideas for that F-body that'll really make it corner well.

Plus, if you read the fine print in your regional SCCA chapter's rulebook, you'll see that since you're taking a bath on engine ability your Camaro actually qualifies to run in a lower class at autocross and club race events.

Well my car is an auto, so Should I replace the tranny to? or am I better off doing an engine swap, and putting a ls1 in my v6

An engine and tranny swap is the last thing you'll want to do if you're just starting out and on a budget. It's expensive, requires plenty of advanced technical knowledge and fabrication skills (even if it's a factory swap) and isn't always the most reliable thing to do.

Your best bet is to do some bracket racing during the summer at your local dragstrip to get good at being a consistent driver and then put your Camaro up for sale at market price, then use the money from the sale to buy a V8 Camaro. You'll be buying an older one, since the V6's don't fetch as much money as the V8's, but the LS1 cars go back as far as 1998. And the LT1 engine is no slouch either.

Engine swaps are no easy task. I would suggest you sell your car and get an older v8 camaro ei mid 80's. Your insurance wont be all that bad. Prolly a ton less then a newer z28 or ss.

ooo....dont do that. Engine swap is expensive enough and a tranny swap is just as equal. By then u could of gotten a 1998 z28 maybe even an ss by then. Look on autotrader i saw LS1 Z's and SS for 8900-13000 but they have a bit more miles. around 60,000 to 100000

According to Kelley's Blue Book, your car's private party sales value is $10,700.

Now, just to let you know, a 1998 Camaro Z28 with the 6spd trans with 25k on the odometer in good condition Blue Books at $8,370. So, there's your goal.
