I may be picking this truck up tomorrow: it is a 2001 3500 dually,
6 speed manual tranny. My questions is, is this necessarily the HO engine, or was it an option, even though it is a 6 speed?

Thanks!

Paul

i have a 2001, and yes, there was an HO version available with the 6 speed, it was a whopping 245 hp instead of 235. but, thats how the numbers went. I know the 235 was also available with the six speed, and mine is really goofy, its the HO option with a 5 speed. best to look at the engine CPL plate on the gear cover. Near the injector pump. that plate will be stamped with the cpl # as well as valve lash specs, advertised ( rated) hp @ rated rpm, and so on.

happy motoring

something seems wrong there; according to what I've read, you can only get the HO version if you have the 6 speed. Also, the HO engine is desired for its big increase in torque, not its puny increase in HP. Thanks for the advice regarding checking the CPL plate.

pac, according to everything you or I will ever read, the HO version was not available with the 5-speed. but hey, don't tell the truck I drive every day, it might not believe you. :iceslolan

On the other hand, my truck was not supposed to have disc brakes on all four, or a bunch of other little things. It took some digging to find out it was a factory order, that was never picked up by its intended owner. It has many little quirks, options that you cannot get out of the brochure, without certain packages selected and so on.

I have had wonderful luck over the years, ending up with trucks like this one, where you can have a bit of a snarl finding the proper parts and so on, but on the other hand, all these oddballs have been the most reliable units I have ever driven. hmmm
