I know i havent got pictures up yet but iam workin on it. I just cant get my scanner to work. But i was wondering if you guys notice that exhaust only comes out from the drivers side. "I know it comes out the other one to" but when it's cold u can see the exhaust and my car only comes out on the drivers side. Does anybody know why? I always wondered this but didnt know why. I looked at the exhaust and i noticed that thiers two pipes comming from the drivers side muffler and the one leads to the other exhaust. Is that proably why?

It's active exhaust, a feature of our car...believe it or not. It actually figures out how much exhaust is coming out and whether it needs to be redirected to come out of both. If you have someone look at it when you are giving it plenty of gas, it will come out both.

Are you sure? Cause i thought they stop the active exhaust after 1993. I have a 1996 model. LOL well if i do that is sweet anthor thing i can tell my friends that i have.

Yeah, I just researched on the web, and what I was calling active exhaust isn't...exactly. I didn't realize that active exhaust had a toggle to switch between the 2 modes like ECS does. The active exhaust stopped after 94. However, I have a 96 vr4 and I can assure you that the exhaust does what I described, normally. I was just calling it the wrong thing. I am guessing that 95+ just did it all automatically as I described, but without having the toggling switch inside the cabin. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

iv'e got a 93 t/t gto and my exhaust only works on 1 side unless i hit the silent switch next to my rear windshield switch, it then opens up the other bank and makes the gasses flow through the other box as well to quieten it down. the sound is very much
quieter at around 3000rpm with the silent mode on. it may flow through 1 exhaust only so the exhaust gas can exit quicker but to be honest, i dont notice any power gain or loss on either function.i hardly use it anyway,
i like the growl........

So iam not the only one with a VR4 that has exhaust comming from only one side. I still confused is it active exhaust or does it just do it??

not sure about the later years but the 1st gen definately have an active exhaust system but as far as i know it only ports out from 1 side unless you hit the (silent) switch mode then it comes out of both tails. wat year is your car and do you have this switching facility?

Yeah, ours (96 vr4s) lack a toggle switch so we cannot control it, it seems the car does that automatically.

yeah they all do that, all have an exhaust coming down the driver seat and about were the trunk is the other part just travels over to the other side and it looks like we have dual exh. i guess 1st gens actually have the switch and it opens up so it travels over to the other exhaust also. they found out that it had no affect at all in performance. thats why the 2nd gens don't have the switch.

When in tour mode you will get worse gas milage, and iif you want proof on a performance difference, set your cruse control on 80 watch your boost gauge and flip the switch.

So the 96 model opens the other exhaust when it needs to? Say iam at full throttle then is it activated i take it. Because when it was colder out smoke was comming out alot and u couldnt even see any from the other outlet.

Yeah thats exactly what happens on mine. And I think all of them after 94, not just 96. At idle in cold weather it is obvious that it only comes out one side, but when you are going pretty heavy the other side opens up.

no thats not what happens it has to do with pressure, the higher rpm the more comes out the other side, nothing to do with any switches or anything just natural pressure

Oh...that would explain it, thanx
