Steering

Alright, I just bought a 97 Tahoe with 110k on it.
I did a search and came up with a EVO valve. I think it may be the problem, but I want to be sure.
First off, the steering wheel sets crooked. Going straight its at 10 o'clock. From about 10-12 o'clock I can swing it back and forth and theres no change in direction. The steering is VERY loose, I can turn the truck around with 1 finger. Its like the steering is spaghetti.
Does the EVO valve tighten up the steering and/or straighten the wheel?
Cool forum BTW!

Well, I guess no one knows. I replaced the valve anyway and it did not correct the problem at all. Im taking her to a friend to give her steering components a good physical. Thanks anyway. Ill post the results.

I have had similar problems on my '99 Tahoe. Which was actually due to a known issue. The Steering Wheel Speed Sensor was defect. It supplys the ECM with info and the ECM sends modulated current to the EVO. By the way if no current is supplied to the EVO power-steering is at full power. Also if the ECM detects any discrepancy in the WEHICLE speed a related DTC trouble code would set resulting in Full Power. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

BINGO! I just replaced the steering sensor on my 1997 Z-71. Piece of cake to change out!
I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile.
Thanks!!! To the fourms.
