Stock tire reccomendations

Since I'm keeping my rims/tires stock for now (15" ers all the way), I need some input on tires. It's been 40k, and mine are just about dead. I've looked into the new Potenza's, but I'm not sure about them yet (they're about $97 each). The tire guy tried to sell me on some Firehawks, but I've never heard of them. Anyone got any input on some nice sticking/handling wet/dry rubber? Thanks!

Try tirerack.com - look under their section on tires, they have a grid that rates them for different conditions i.e. wet, dry, treadware etc.
They also have some customer reviews on their too.

firehawks arent bad, much better than the re92's or affinity you haveon there. r92s basically suck.

id recommend the RE910 potenza's for a cheap but decent performance. I use them on my G and working great. best part is that it has low road noise for a semi-performance tire and has plenty of nimble control.

I got 8000 miles on a set of Dunlop A2 Sport tires. Got em at Tirerack.com for about $55.00 apiece. I swear that Michelin went up on price after the Firestone debacle. they wanted 100 bones APEICE!!!>!>!the Dunlop is quiet and rides as well as my preivious Mich MXV4 with better wet traction. Perhaps the best wet tire i've ever had and good dry adhesion. It's not a autocrosser but for every day stuff, it half the price of Michelin with same ride and noise level but superior in grip wet or dry. I've had Goodyear GA (OEM) fair tire but NOISY, Re-92 (not great and lousy wear) and MXV4 and this Dunlop is the first tire I would buy again. Nice linear feel ... very competent feeling and inspiring for a stock size, according to the ass-o-meter.

well since tires r the only thing keeping u on the ground it's in ur best interest not to skimp on them..good tires improve braking distance as well..that said if u can afford it go with michelin pilot xgt v4 in 205/55/15..here's a link http://www.tirerack.com/tires/michelin/mi_pilotxgtz4.jsp

im not really sure how cold the weather gets where u live but if i gets below 40 then u need an all season tire that can withstand the cold temps..otherwise i'd go with yokohama avs intermediates..i've heard great things about them

another thing to notice is that both tires i've recommended are not directional which means when u rotate them u can switch sides instead of having to either demount the tire and flip it on the rim or only being able to rotate front to back thus saving u money in the long run b/c ur tires will last longer

There's also the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712's in 205/55/15 for around $67 a corner on tirerack. These are good all around performance tire.

I have the Bridgestone RE730 in 205/55/15 on my stock P11 rims. They handle really nice and have a good ride. The downside is that they're not super quiet if that kind of stuff bugs you.
If price is no object, consider the Bridgestone Pole Positions.

Well don't know if you have got your new tires yet or not but I just slapped on a set of AVS Intermediate and will have to say that these are very sticky tires, I will have to wait untill the next auto-x to get a real good impression of them but I can diffently say they are 1000x better then the stock potenza's they replaced. Two thumbs up for the avs.
