Im replacing the 4 stock 5 1/4'' speakers in my 89 laredo. The locations are 2 are up front in the drivers and passengers door, the other 2 are in the back in the tailgate. I dont know much about car speakers but looking on crutchfield I noticed there are different 5 1/4s, like 2-ways, 3-ways etc.

My question is given those speaker locations, should that influence what type of 5 1/4s I put where? For instance should I put some 3-ways in the front, and 2 ways in the back? Does it matter? Also Im using a cheap-ish CD player headunit which i dont know how much power it gives off. Can someone give me a ball park "wattage" or "dB" or whatever that is that i should keep in mind when choosing speakers?

Thanks alot,

Thanks alot,

that CD player would not do much more that 20 Watt's so do not worry about over powering the speakers....as for 2-way or 3-way's earthier would do just fine.... me I would go with 2-way's for all 4 speakers.....
like this one http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0Tz0k7Crvtv/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=10&g=51800&I=1085002I&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N
I just looked rely quick on it but some thing like this would be a good sounding speaker for you....

what car it this for? (year and model)
would you be able to cut it for 6"x9" in the rear?
or even 6" 1/2?
what is the amount of $$ you wont to spend?
what are you looking to get out of them?
are you planing on up grading the hole stereo?

Thanks for the reply. Its and 89 cherokee laredo , 4 door. The speakers are the factory speakers are 2 - 5.25s in the front doors and 2 - 5.25s in the rear (tailgate) panel. I dont have much money to spend atleast not at one time. I just want something that can handle most types of music well, I mostly listen to rock though. I dont need alot of bass or anything like that, basically I just need something that wont get on my nerves for sounding really shitty, like it does now.

Actually what i was thinking is that maybe it wouldnt be enough power for the speakers, not that it would be too much.

I never really considered putting anything larger than the factory speakers into it but once i manage to get that rear panel off i will see if it is an option. Are the 6 inch speakers signifigantly louder?

Also, are CD players supposed to reset themselves everytime you turn off the car? I have to redo my bass and treble settings everytime i get into the car. Would this be the cd players fault or the car?

Thanks

i think that those speakers will be fine, and it would definitely be the cd players fault.
