What should I get, a 1997 honda prelude, or a 1995 honda civic w/an H22a engine? And what turbo-kit should I buy, Greddy, HKS, or Rev-Hard

97 prelude, hks. so your car can still go around a corner or two.

An H22 in a civic will be faster in a straight line than an H22 Prelude, since the Civic is much lighter. However, there are a few things you should know. First, you really can't keep your a/c and power steering. Second, your civic will now corner like crap. The H22 motor is much heavier, and gives the Civic much more front weight...this creates a lot of understeer, which, makes the car corner like crap.

The question is this...Are you building a drag car (in which you only care about straight line speed), a car for auto-cross or track days (you'll want cornering, understeer will not be your friend), or for a daily driver.

As I said, the H22 Civic will go faster in a striaght line, but you'll loose the a/c and likly loose the power steering, plus it won't corner worth a damn. The Prelude won't be as fast in a straight line, since it's much heavier. However, it will have a/c and power steering. Plus, it will corner better, since the car was designed with that engine weight up front in mind. Basically, you'll have less understeer, so you'll corner better.

It's really a matter of what you are looking for out of a car and engine combo.

I'd probably pick the 97 prelude if it's for daily driver. you don't want to spin out trying to get on the freeway. it's also nice to have a/c and power sterring for parallel parking.

Dude, your times are way off... for one, he's not going to run 10-11 second 1/4's on a boosted H22 Civic, he's most likely not going to run 13's with the Lude either (I say most likely because I do npt know his long term plans). An H22 has fairly thin cylinder walls and can't handle much more than 6psi...8psi of boost max. He's NOT getting into the 10's on 6-8psi in a Prelude....sorry....He'll have to fully build the head and short block, and boost the crap out of it...and run on slicks...and...I think you get the idea, so I won't contuine at this moment.

so you're saying no one will get 10-11 seconds in the quarter with a boosted h22? because if you didn't know his long term plans what makes you think he won't. i'm just saying lb for lb the two cars would be a big difference

I didn't say speed wasn't POSSIBLE with a boost H22. Jason Whitfield, who owns Rage Performance i LA has a 725HP boosted H22 in a 5th gen hatch. You are understnading it wrong. He wants a car THAT IS MOSTLY A DAILY DRIVER!!!! READ THE THREAD!!! HE SAID HE WANTS A CAR THAT IS MOSTLY FOR DAILY DRIVING. That tips you off to his plans there. A boosted H22, to even get close to into that speed rage, would need a full rebuild, re-sleeved, new pistons, rods, bearings, springs, retainers, vavles, etc...It will be VERY expensive. Then he will have to boost with a very high amount of boost. A car like that will need to be tuned constinantly, usually won't have a long life in comparisin to a mildy tuned motor, and IS NOT A DAILY DRIVABLE VEHILCE!!!! He want's a car for a daily driver, so obviously, that is not in his plans there. Let to intrpurate things better.I know damn well pound for pound there is a difference, that's why the Civic will be fatser in a straight line but handle like shit. I am not new to cars, nor new on this site. I was just saying that he wants a daily driven vehicle. That usually means mildly modified, low boost, etc. And in neither car, will a dependable Daily driver go that fast.

As for what to get, KaMaKaZiPyRo, that's up to you. An H22 in a civic won't corner well, but if you don't take tiwsties fast and don't car, it will get you from point a to b fine, it just won't handle as well in the twisties as a civic with a lighter motor like a B or D series. It will also lack p/s and a/c, which I know some people don't care about, but others do. The Preulde was designed for the motor, so it will handle better with that motor, though the extra curb weight will slow it down. If racing is not your big thing, the lude will be a bit bigger, and therefor may be more comfortable as a daily drive to you. Also, it will most likely have more sound deadening, and will have a/c and p/s. As for a B-series in a civic. You can keep your p/s and a/c with this swap, and it will handle much better than the H22 in a civic, less understeer. That would be the more comfortable swap in a civic. If you want my opinion on it, here's my 2 cents. If you want an H22, go for the Prelude (it also has better sound dampening). If you want a Civic and don't really want a lude, and/or arn't attached to the H22 idea, a B-series motor in a civic will give in a bump in power, and it will hanlde fine (unlike an H22 in a civic). Again, a civic is lighter than an integra, so a GSR or LS will be a little fast in a civic than in a teg.
