after saving for almost a year and a half i've got enough $$$ to plunk down into the car. i just got my ze motor ordered....once i get it im gunna have it sent to a machine shop around here to have it bored out to a 2.7 liter. then it's pistons, rockers, springs, port/polished, balanced the works!!!
.....you guys think it's possible to hit 275 w/the finished product? im hoping for at least 250...im not wanting to go the turbo route. mainly cuz i have no clue about turbo's and would rather stick to what i can manage. i get how they work n' such but i would have no clue about maintenance. i got the motor from a dealer around here (friend of a friend type deal) for $700 so i sprung, i figured by the time im done w/the whole deal i'll have close to 7K under the hood....

it's gonna be a nice engine....i hope your not scared dumping cash into your engine because it's gonna cost you a leg....got to buy custom pistons to go with that and machine shop don't work for free...anyways...keep us updated with your project...good luck

yeah, i've got about 4g's set aside for the motor upgrades alone.(thank God for low intrest student loans!!!) i got the motor last week, ZE alright KL31-101, KL31-1A1, ive got the JDM millenia intake too. i took the motor to my mechanic and he was gunna look at it and take it to the shop to start the process. He said it would prolly run me a good 2-3k easy. so, im ready. I'm just hoping after this is all said and done i'll be able to run w/the big dogs (a.k.a, the turbo mx-3's).
what do you guys think? will i be able to put down 250 @ the crank, or am i just being optimistic???

I was thinking....since your gonna have to get custom pistons....take them with a higher compression ratio since your not going force induction....do that and with a couple of basic mods you should get your 250 crank hp

what would you suggest? it's in the shop now so if im gunna change it it's gotta be within the next few days.
i was talking to a friend in town...(the only other guy i know w/an mx-3 who tunes it) and he told me to go w/a fuel pressure regulator that runs 40psi. not to sure about this mod...maybe you could help?

buy an underdrive pulley, fidanze flywheel or shave yours, get headers, cat back, intake, fpr would be nice, phenolic spacers, hi-flow car or test pipe, good clutch....that's the basics

fpr? never heard of it. ...got all that stuff on the list. going w/a 4 paddle clutch for max performance. what were you thinking of in terms of compression ratio?
thanks for the input

a fpr is just a fuel pressure regulator....and as far as pistons go...i would get some 11:1 or 12:1 compression ratio pistons....

fpr....i get it now(didnt put 2 and 2 together) :-) how will higher compression affect the life of the engine? am i going to need a rebuild...12:1 would be awesome but am i going to be able to take the thing out for a drive around town or stricktly track only?

the thing is with higher the compression the higher octane you have to use...I think it will be streetable but finding race gas will be hard....I have 10:1 compression and I have to use 94 octane...I don't know how much octane you will have to use but i do know you'll need higher than 94..maybe even octane booster....to prevent detonation. If you go overbore you'll probably need some special headgaskets to be made but not sure...it will be the first time i see a 2.7L 12:1 CR (compression ratio)...can't wait to see that

hmm...im not so sure i wanna go higher compression now...octane booster would be fine(cause you can order that stuff by the case if necessary) but i only know of 1 place that sells race fuel in town. i guess it was worth looking into though. if i need any gaskets the machine shop should take care of it...hopefully (i dont wanna have to go part hunting)
