3rd Gen Question

Hey guys,

A friend told me that my 1990 prelude SI has an early form of VTECH. Can anyone verify this for me?

if it is like my 3rd gen accord it is kind of like a "vtec" type of thing. My 3rd gen accord has a secondary unit of intake runners(something with the intake manifold) that kicks in at 4grand. Your b20a prelude may be the same way.

mmmm.... i dont think it is vtek i have a 91 and it wasnt vtek it got a kick after 4g but it wasnt vtek.

SORRY BUD BUT THE VTEC SYSTEM DID NOT ARRIVE INTO THE PRELUDE UNTIL 1993 WHICH MADE 190HP YOUR SI ENGINE MAKE 140HP. IT MAY AS STATED PREVOIUSLY HAVE SECONDARYS IN YOUR THROTTLE BODY WHICH OPEN UP WHEN YOU ACCELERATE AND THE CAR READS O VACUUM. GO TO WHATS VTEC.

I am an owner of a true prelude hybrid motor, and i would change it for the world. Custom fabrication of a head gasket and either a b16a v-tech head or a gsr v-tech head. The conversion are out there, just alot of money. I bought mine this way, and it is definately v-tech, i got a tech controllerkicking in at 6100rpms, and a red line at 8000 rpms. Build your motor for tourque.

B20A5-B21A1 Have 3 or 4 butterflys in them and if closed it helps with low end torque and when you car hits around 5g's the other butterflys open and allows more air to flow as the engine requires it, it kinda sounds like V TEC because its sucking twice as much air and you get the sudden power is from the engine getting more air from the butterflys opening, its all controled by intake vacume that opens a little dashpot valve on the right side of your intake, hope that answers your question in good detail.
