Im gona buy a 2004 civic sometime in this month. I was just wondering whats the diff between 2004 civic LX and EX, i couldn't find the answer in the FAQ section. I know EX is better than LX since its more expensive but how is it better? I don think i can afford an EX, will the LX worth driving? thanks

The main difference is the engine. LX is 115hp non-VTEC and EX is 127hp VTEC. Both are SOHC. Other than that, there are minor differences in the interior/exterior of tha car.

u know what sucks is that if you got the model with the vtec which is basically the EX and you plan to go forced air then you gotta remove the vtec

when i say forced air it could be turbo or supercharger or electric supercharger or anything that forces air into the system

i have the dx model which makes for a lighter car cause it doesnt have all the extras.. i think the only extra my car has is the power locks but thats it...no vtec.. so i wont be having that problem but if you do have the VTEC mechanism, it opens the valves nice and wide at high RPMs, but open them not as much at low RPMs. So now you have a engine with smooth operation at low RPMs, and high power output at high RPMs.The SOHC VTEC (01+civics) is a system that achieves mild power gains. Usually, SOHC VTEC engines gives about as much power as DOHC non-VTEC engines of similar displacement. now when you open up your throttle at high rpms with a turbo, its forcing the air into your engine. vtec doesnt know that so it will still open up the valves nice and wide and the end result could be disasterous.. thats what just happen last week with my friends vtec.. he bought a turbo from maxrev and ran the boost at 5 psi.... engine running fine then he punches it... i was like wow still going stong.. i heard the vtec kicking in plus the turbo so i thought it was a good thing... go down to the tracks and boom... halfway down the track you hear a loud bang from the engine... come to find out the rods snapped, the sleeves gave in the the valves are cracked... go down to the shop i normally go to and ask wats up, at first they thought he ran the boost to high but after closer look they said he forgot to remove the vtec.. a life lesson learned

you know what though...i bet you there is a way to reprogram it from the chip or something... probably swapping out the ecu or something that can adjust to the turbo or take it into consideration perhaps???

wtf are you talking about "removing vtec"?? It's part of the mechanics of the head, it's not just a magical thing that you can unbolt.. You can turbo a vtec engine. Are you people sniffing glue?
