Anybody here into R/C cars . . . or just interested in them?
I'm looking into buying a kit to work on slowly through the colder months, but I'm still in my research phase . . .
So far I've grown partial to Tamiya and HPI 1/10 kits . . . yet I'm told that even though HPI makes some awesome kits, they don't sell a lot of parts, so it'd be hard to fix something or modify your R/C car after building it . . .
Any truth to this?

Thanks for the input . . . I'm pretty much aware of everything neede to get "started" . . . but between HPI and Tamiya there is a huge price difference in what I've seen so far . . .
Like:
HPI kit for $249.99 - minus radio, motor, battery, charger and misc small stuff . . .
Tamiya kit for $119.99 - INCLUDES motor (??), but no radio, battery, charger . . .
What makes HPI such a high ticket R/C kit?

DAMN Xeno . . .
Lot's of good info . . . thanks!
I really like the look of the HPI kits . . . and if I understand you correctly, it is the better choice.
All in all, I think I'll go for a Tamiya . . . first built kit, I wouldn't feel comfortable spending a bunch on it.
Now I need to do some research into the product lineup . . .

ahh im late but ill give my 2 cents anyway. Your probaly looking at a HPI Pro 3, is a brand new car to the market as of like mid last year. Taimiya's electric kits have been around longer than that. if it is a silver can motor, and you you want to go racing, do not use the motor, it is junk for racing because its not strong at all, but good for run time. In R/C racing, like in real racing, the driver makes more of a difference than anything else so I wouldnt go with the HPI first, even if you do want to race. Id suggest that you get the Taimiya for now.

What makes HPI such a high ticket R/C kit? Hey how bout I sell you a Tamiya kit AND a Kawada kit which is as good as HPI if not better including all electronics for about the price of both of those? I have a 1300 dollar set up that I am selling for way way WAY less than that like 70% Less!
