college concerns (sigh....again)

Ok everyone, heres my situation....

1. I took my psats...i got an 1140 :( but that was just language mechanics and math, no writing skills included.....but you all know the deal and ive learned a lot since ive taken it...

2. for a gpa i can expect a high C (2.9 is my current gpa :( ) i dropped trig, but regardless by the end of the year im expecting my gpa to be a low B....might be very low.....yet to be seen

3. I miss a lot of school, not like im never there, everybody says i miss a lot, but i still manage to keep my grades up, math is all that keeps me down

4. Im gettin an advanced diploma from the school, i know the colleges dont even look at that, but i guess a plus is a plus no matter what in my situation

5. i write very good essays, i know you cant tell it here, but i can

soooo my concerns are:

1. can i get into college? like, any hope at all? i dont want a big university or anything, an average college, not top of the line, not the bottom of the well either.....average

2. i wanna do somethin in the field of psychology.....any psych majors here? im thinkin criminal psych, in that area....i know im gonna need to take a bunch of statistics courses, but any info pertaining to that would be great

well....anyway...thats my situation....its somethin ive been worrying about every waking second as of late......i *think* i can do it, but i wanna come to some people with experience in college.....i guess thats about all

anyway, thanks everyone!

are you a junior still? Cause i dont see any normal SAT scores there. Im in the same boat with ya man, i've managed 1200 on my SAT's and my GPS isnt thre greatest either. But if you're a well rounded person, you should have to worry too much. Colleges arent JUST looking at numbers, they want to know the person too. If you do a couple of sports, and community things, you should be all set. Im putting in apllications right now. I know that i probably wont get into WPI, the college of my choice, but im pretty sure im guarunteed for UMass. And you know what? It may not be the "top of the top" school, but its still pretty good! You should look a "lower" colleges too, man. Some of them are really great! Don't stress yourself too much over it, becuase that'll just make things worse. I'm sure you're a bright guy, and won't have problems getting into college.

Just one Q: why are you missing school so much?

I wouldn't worry about it. I got into a fine university here and I don't have stellar grades. Remember that people look at what you do more than how high you scored. I'm in several organizations that I actively participate in. Participation is the key. If you show people you know how to leave the cave, kill something and drag it home, and that you're not afraid of work you'll get ahead.

well, my school has been really stupid about clubs and stuff, ive done like, 3 things

1. ACE......although i cant remember what the acronym stands for...we stopped going a long time ago

2. LEO....the young lions thing...to get out of 5th period

3. scholastic bowl.....lol...for two years, opted not to do it this year, probably will next year.......

no real sports to speak of......all we have here is football and track and im not built for football....i have done a few things outside of school if they count that....

yeah, im a junior

so, thanks everyone

bah, do track. I do track. i suck too, but i dont care.
And you still have all next year to bring up your grades. YES they look at senior year, so dont slack off and take "cooking 1" and "naptime 101". this year i loaded up (over?) on AP history 2, AP Physics 2, AP German 5... yeah its killing me, but in the long run its better.

first off....

yes you can get into college with a 2.9 avg. as for psats..those things suck...i got a 930 on my psat and a 1220 on my sat. also work hard during your senior yr but not too hard. i dont recommend taking 2 sciences at a time esp. bio and physics. i took physics my senior yr and hated it. haha
well this is what i took my senior yr
physics
latin
english
shakespeare
art
calculus

they key is not to take all slack classes but mix it up! also goto class it really does make a diff.
i am currently in college now and i am taking 6 classes. and well personally im thinking college is alot easier than high school. i have a 3.7 gpa. just when u get to college dont slack off your freshman yr. itll come back 2 u.
