Flowmaster 40 Series

Well I'm looking to get a flowmaster 40 series for my truck. I'm just not quite sure if I should get the Delta Flow 40 Series or just the Original Flowmaster 40 Series. Is there a big difference? Which would you prefer?

I'm not familiar with the Delta Flow, but the regular 40 series are LOUD! If that is what you want then by all means go with the 40 series, but I would recommend the 70 series.

I still have a 40 series that was used for only one day before I took it off my 99 Extended Cab Silverado. It was too loud for my tastes, but I will sell it cheap to make room in my garage (I've got like 6 mufflers stacked up now from past cars :eek: ). If you're interested-send me a private message. i'v got 1999 with a 6.0L i put 40 series on and boy were they load inside and out so i went back and had them put on 50 series it's alot better but still has inside noise at certain speeds how are the 70 's inside noise.

Yes, I'd like more info on the 70 series too. I found the 40 series too loud for my tastes, and believe it or not, the magnaflow was too loud for me after a while. Maybe I'm getting old... :banghead:
I put a resonator in front of the magnaflow which brought the sound to a comfortable level, but it really jacked up the performance of the truck. I guess I'm stuck trying out the 70 series or just going back to stock. The (new) muffler shop I went to said he always recommends the 70 series over the Magnaflow for the extended cabs due to resonance noise at low rpms. If I try the 70 I'll let ya know. :disappoin

The 70 series are awesome. Just don't let the muffler shop cut your converter, and you will have zero complaints! My truck is the old 350 TBI and even it doesn't get ridiculasly loud, even under hard acceleration. And on the inside, at 65 mph the noise is not much louder then the stock mufflers, and only somewhat louder when the truck shifts out of O/D. I would highly recommend them. They are about $50 more then 40 series, but you will never say they are too loud. Go to www.flowmastermufflers.com and listen for your self. They even have a sample of a 6.0 Vortec and a 5.3 inside and out.

So the resonator added to the performance of the truck? Where was the power most noticeable?

When I said "jacked up"....that is my polite term for saying the resonator "f$cked-up" the performance of the truck. Just putting on the magnaflow it seemed like I lost some low-rpm torque but gained high-rpm horsepower. After the resonator, the noise was much quieter and manageable, but the truck lost tons of power especially at the high rpm end. Amazing how such small changes can make such a big difference! :eek:

Well, good luck with the 70 Series red00lght. I love them but my truck still has the stock converter and only just the one 70 Series with one inlet and dual outlet pipes. I love the low rumble my truck now has and I can tell a difference in low-end power and a big difference when going up a hill. I'm sure your 5.3 would benefit even more so then my old 5.7 TBI.
Do you have any experience with throttle body spacers? They advertise big gains in low-end torque and fuel mileage. I'd like to get one for my truck if they actually work.

Well count the resonator out for me. I'll stick with my single 40 series for now. As far as the throttle body spacers, I've heard they aren't worth the money, but some people swear by them. There are a few posts about them on here somwhere. Take a look.

I have a 2000 Silverado 4x4 Ext. Cab. I had a Flowmaster 40 series single in dual out with 3 1/2" MegaFlow tips installed and it sounds great. It isn't too loud in the cab and isn't that noticiable on the highway when cruise is set at 70-75mph. I have had a lot of compliments on how great it sounds.

I have nothing against the 40 series Flowmasters personally. I was just afraid they would "slap" on my truck becuase I have a TBI 350. Thats why I went with the 70 Series and I am very satsified, and have had comments as well. I'm almost 90% sure now though the slapping sound I'm referring to happens when the converter is gone.
I have 3 inch MagnaFlow stainless steel tips on my truck, they look great. I would recommend them to anyone interested in duals.

I guess I will eventually get one this summer sometimes (I've seen them for about $80) and I will try for myself. i would have never believed the Flowmasters would give me more power like they have, especially in the bottom end and going up hills, but they sure did! Helped gas mileage a little too (like 1 mpg)

My truck would get around 400 to the tank back last summer. That was with Hypertech and Flows. I'm guessing the thing that killed my mileage was adding 285's. I had 265's back then, and I didnt have my FIPK.....go figure?

Lol, yeah the 285s would hurt the mileage. Thats about what my truck will do for a tank (actually, about 360 to just below 3/4s of a tank, try not to let it get into the red). I can't complain, it always averages between 17-19 mpg, and I think for a 4WD that is 12 years old with a 350 to boot, its doing great!

i have a 40 series on my truck its through 2 1/2' pipe in and 3 1/2" stainless tips and i love the sound and on the highway inside its not to loud unless like said before its downshifted out of o/d.
