There is nothing stateside STOCK that will beat the evo in acceleration, domestic or other.
Are sure you do not want to retract this statement? I mean do not get me wrong, I do not own a domestic car, and do not plan on doing so any time soon, but are you serious. Which EVO are you talking about, the EXTREME version?
EVO VII GSR 0-60 in what about 4.3 seconds is this correct? Because if so how about these cars:
01 (385hp) Z06 0-60 in 4.2
02 (405hp) Z06 0-60 in 4.0
Mustang Cobra R 0-60 in 4.4
Dodge Viper ACR 0-60 in 4.2
00 Viper RT/10 0-60 in 4.2
03 Viper RT/10 0-60 even faster
All of these cars are production models(However limited a run), that anyone can buy if they have the money.
However I do realize, that these are all more expensive options, but my point is, is that there are some(I really mean some!!) decent options in the states. I however am a true believer in forced induction transportation.
My flame suit is on!

hmmm, good point, but if you threw the stock vs. stock quotient aside, you have yourself a bunch of 50 thousand dollar plus cars there (except for maybe the mustangs, but mustangs are shitboxes. DOn't get me started on mustangs). Thats 20 grand in modifications to the evo before you are spending as much as you would spend on the least expensive of those cars. An Evo with 20 grand thrown into it will decimate all of those cars in every way, except for possibly top speed. a 50 thousand dollar Evo will drive circles around those cars at autocross events and trackdays, then go to the drags and run steady 10 second 1/4 miles, which none of those cars can claim. All while getting better gas mileage, holding five adults more comfortably than any of those cars, And having enough storage space to take all of them for a weekend stay at a bed and breakfast. If you go by stock vs. stock for strictly performance, then those cars I guess could hold a candle to the Evo in straight line performance, but part of the allure of the Evo is its ability to destroy almost everything on the road, and still be an inexpensive and reliable daily driver. Overlooking the price is overlooking something that makes the evo a great car.

Good point, the timing that you put there is really with in 10th's of seconds to the evo, so were both right.
...and I did give good mention to dodge and the Viper.
violinandy:
That was my point exactly.

violinandy: Well put! I do agree with everything you have just said, that is why I am also waiting for the EVO to come stateside. I however was just trying to point out that there are other cars that can run out there. I am originally from the SE, and there are ALOT of sleepers down there. I have personally seen a Chevy Nomad wagon lift its front wheels at a stoplight as it took off! And the car had a great 10-12 color(plus primer!) paint job.(HAHA) But it was fast as hell.
But either way, it is going to be great to run up on and pass Camaro's,Mustang's, and many other cars with my four door sedan.:D

It also depends on which model Evo yer talking about...
Yes the GSR will do 0-60 in 4.3, but what will the RS do?
I know the RS is lighter as built more for straight-line speed than the GSR.
I also know that the RS runs a 12.9 1/4 mile if I'm correct.....I remember seeing a video showing a 12.9

Yes, it is true that the Evo VII is a good deal, that's why I'm planning to buy one, and yes you can dump $20k in it to make it real fast, but the reality of the matter is, if you did, and you had to sell the car, you would never recover the money you put into it whereas with the other cars, it depreciates alot less.
And, the second you start changing stuff, you can say good-bye to the warranty. Especially once you put in the big turbo and electronics.
Those other cars have full factory warranties, so if you bust something, it's covered.

The market on trade-in and resale value is not on the domestics side, if I here you right, eve-ho-VII, your saying that domestics depreciate a lot less.
Stock domestics, i.e cameros, stangs, stuff like that, depreciate a lot more than imports.
The uper range of domestics, i.e. limited editions fare equally to holding their value with imports.
Right now, Subaru leads the nation for resale value. Followed closely by toyota, and then Mirsubishi. Domestics are down farther on the list.
On ANY car if you add parts and there is damage caused by the aftermarket part, then your warrenty is gone.
There are a few dealers though, that will Load the car for you, i.e. add intake, exhaust, and stabilizerz, and stuff that is bolt on, as long as the aftermarket part is made by the mother company. TRD parts for example, our toyota dealership, as shitty as it is, will gladly order TRD parts for you and mount them on the car and it WON"T void the warrenty. Many mitsubishi dealers in the U.S. are set up with Rhys Millen for after market parts, and they WON'T void warrenties, as long as the dealer installs it.

Yes, I agree with you about factory installed parts, but most people do not utilize them, i believe mostly for the cost. As far as depreciation on the domestics, I believe the discussion circled around the limited production domestic cars, not the camaro's or mustang gt's, but more like the Z06's, Vipers, and Mustang Cobra R. I apologize if I didn't spell out that when I said "other cars" I meant the "super cars"
I'm not a big fan of the domestics myself, but the point being more of the depreciation amounts of the modified cars vs factory performance cars whether domestic or imports. I have a modified Infiniti and I know that I will only receive pennies on the dollar for the mods I have done.
As far as your depreciation list where Subaru leads with toyota and mitsubishi following, I agree the domestics being furthur down, but I do not agree with you that Mitsubishi is up there. Historically, they are either average or worse than average in depreciation. Subaru tends to be average and toyota being the only one that is (on certain models) better than average. (Taken from Consumers Reports). Don't flame me for reading the publication because they have the best, most comprehensive database as far as repair frequency and depreciation.

just discussing, aint trying to be flaming, the flaming stayed in the other thread, this is the legit thread, serious shit only, just discussing, good point.
In my town, the subaru resale is the highest thing in town, that is in our community or area, I don't know how they break it up, but in different markets, different imports lead.
And yes I was talking about the limited edition cars, but how many afford those expensive domestics?
I don't see many her, we have 3 vipers, one cobra, 3 ferrari's, and thats it in my town
There only driven in the summer, on friday night cruz night.
They garadge em, and they all belong to 60 or over club.
The olsd men don't drive em like they were built to be driven, so just relaying how it is here, no harm done, didn't mean to sound flaming, my apologies.

Actually, I was trying to be funny about the flaming, poor shot I guess. Anyway, yeah, I know what you mean about the older gentlemen buying these cars, I have a few of those, but I also have guys in town that aren't afraid to drive them fast. Those guys are the cool ones.
But back to the cost, someone was saying if they dumped $20k into a EVO....
That would put it up on the $50K range, up to where some of those limited production cars reside.
I know you weren't tryin to flame me, I appreciate that.
I still believe the EVO VII is one of the worlds best performance values and I will buy one, but I'm going to have to get something else in the meanwhile (ie: WRX), until Mitsu gets their act together.

Atleast we agree, that is a good point, I was reading it different.
My bad, anyway's where I'm at, they all drive slow.
Any way, dumping that much into it is well, your right, assenine at the beginning, but hell, If I had the money to blow, I would.
Any way, check out the vids that will be posted as soon as the space opens up, I'll post a thread for them!

Look at your maps, see the dot that is on the Southeast side of the state.
Were the third largest city in Idaho, we have 55,000 people in this town. "Richville," we ain't. We are 2 hours north of Saltlake City Utah, and they have a few dealerships with those cars there. What we have is a city counsil that does not want growth, unless it's a retirment home. The only people that are moving here are a bunch of californians, and a few Seattle Wa. and that is it. The money they made there, goes three times as far in our city's economy, so a few of them have bought older Ferrari's and a couple of them have the first year Viper RT-10's, but there is one old nut, who just took delivery on two very sweet cars, First on is a Viper GTS, that he waited 3 years on a waiting list. 2nd is a Ferrari 355, this one is unique, because it is a twin turbo. I'm not sure about the model it was, it looked like the new testerossa or 355 spider they have out, it is a early 90's though, but I saw both turbo's.
I also have driven a Viper GTS, When I worked for a stereo shop here, we had a demo day, and Panasonic brought theres to our location for a show. So all of us employee's got a chance to drive it around the block, small distance, but you'll have wood for weeks. hehehe
