hi there,i got 95 Eclipse GST.bought the car with bad short block(the usual crank walk at around 90k miles).i'm swaping a 6 bolt (91 GSX) into it.acording to the seller i bought the short block from,it had 80K miles on it.anyways i changed main barrings, rod barrings and piston rings.evrything looked fine with the crank and all other components.here is my concern.after a changed the main barrings on the crank shaft i find out something that's bothering me alot.when i grab the crank on both sides(on the timing belt puley and flywheel) and try to move it from side to side there is like a very slight noise,i can feel it move.there is a very small distance,i can't even see it,i can only hear it.
Is that normal or i need to rebuild the block before i put it in the car.i need your proffesional advise before i put it all together(probably the following week).thaks
p.p.i think that this small, small, small, distance in the crank shaft is for oilling the barrings and normal(probably i'm wrong)

If you mean side to side as in the way crankwalk moves, longitudinally, then yes this is probably normal. Get a 4 dollar set of feeler guages (I'm sure you already have a set) and check the gap. Pry the crank to one side and measure the gap between the cranks thrust surface and the thrust bearing surface. Start small and keep going up by .001 until you cant fit it in. The spec is .003 to .009. Anything .010 and up is bad. On a newly rebuilt motor its typically .003-.005. On a used motor anything up to the .009 spec is fine. Even at .003 you will be able to pry the crank back and forth and just barely see/hear/feel it move. Perfectly normal. :) Good luck

hi again.i just find some manual(engine overhaul) for 2.0L (4G6)>. is that the same 4g63 engine(like all turbo's).it sad over there that, that is "the end play" of crankshaft and that if the "end play" exceeds the limit, replacer crankshaft bearings(which i already did).
Standart value:0.05-0.18 mm (.0020-.0071 in.)
Limit: 0.25 mm (.0098 in.)
if u could take a look at it,link below.although if that's the same manual which i'm thinking(for 4g63 motor) i think that it wuold be very helpfull...
p.p.by the way couldn't get to measure today, car is at the shop, will start swapping tomorow after work.then i'll measure and let u know.bought a lightweight flywheel, should be here tomorow also.thanks again and take a look at this:

Those limits you list are exactly what I said they are in my above post, so yes that sounds right. That manual should be the right one.

Its below .009, so yes thats fine. In fact .007 is very typical.
