water/alcohol injection

Ok, so awhile back I was reading about someone doing a DIY water/alcohol injection kit running off his windshield wiper fluid reservour. I can't remember whether it was on 3si or this forum. But I was wondering if any of you had instructions and if any of you had tried it or knew of any results. If I remember correctly, it was only like a $5 dollar setup(if going the cheapest way possible) If motorized or on a seperate switch inside the cabin then it ran more. Thanks, Geoff

building your own alky kit will cost around $150-$175 cause you have to buy all sorts of fittings, waterpump, solenoid, pressure switch, wires, relay and a bunch of other stuff, but yea, you can use winshield washer fluid as your injection liquid

Sorry I should have clarified. What I was refering to was using it to cool the intake plenum, not to be actually injected. The guy who did it just used a T-junction and when he used his windshield wiper button, the fluid was diverted and went through mistors and sprayed on the plenum. Whereby dissipating heat. Others made it more elaborate and put in on its own pump and switch inside the cabin. Sorry for the confusion, I was tired when I wrote it. I was just wondering if anyone had actually tried it and found it worthwhile. Just in theory I think it would be beneficial, I'm just wondering how beneficial.

it would be more beneficial to inject it inside your engine than it will to be used just to cool down the plenum, if your going to cool down just your plenum, first off, the air moves to quickly through the plenum to actually make a difference, and 2, if you just want a cool plenum, you can buy a plenum spacer from e2k and that'll keep it cool.

I guess you're right, it was just something I had remembered reading...vaguely, and was interested to know if anyone had tried it. I figure $5 isn't too much to pay for a slight benefit. I was just curious. thanks for the replies.

Just FYI there's a kit being developed right now by a fellow 3si member that will sell in the $200 range ($150-175 is a good estimate of parts if you buy retail prices).

He's sending me a test unit in the next week and I should have it installed within 2 weeks. Considering I have knock problems due to advanced timing on big injectors, we'll see how well it works!

Check 3si.org under my username in a couple weeks for a report!
