I am still waiting for my eclipse to be fixed before for I buy it. So I was wondering what an "ignition coil" is. It needs to be fixed. The mech said it makes the car studder when driving it. Is there anything else that could go wrong or need a good fixin? It is a 5-speed

In simple terms it is what the spark plugs wires run to. It looks like a box. You can just go out and but a new one and replace it. It wont take you more than 10 min.

Go ahead and change out your plugs and wires too when he gets that taken care of. No reason not to make sure that everything is up to par. Also could be your injectors. but most likely the coil pack and plugs and wires will do it for you no problem.

I would say its hundreds of times more likely that the plugs and wires are the cause. Coil packs seem to fail very rarely on these cars. I'm still on my origianal with all my abuse after 175k miles. NGK stock type copper plugs gapped to .030, and stock or NGK wires.
