I really dont understand what pontiac was thinking with the styling of the GTO. I love the old gto as do so many others. So what does pontiac do when their sales are lagging? they take a coveted mark and turn it into shit. I find it interesting that they didnt learn their lesson with the camaro/ firebird line which was retired in '02? The Firebird was a much better car than this GTO. All it needed was a interior update.
So instead of making the firebird a more worthy sportscar, they make the GTO (i have a hard time calling this grand am a gto). Am i crazy or is the gto going to be marketed to the same group of buyers as the firebird only its more expensive!!!! I think that the execs at pontiac got a few screws loose. The 350hp LS1 should have been droped into the old grand prix and it would have been a better match.

um...the firebird was a pony car, they have always been less(i believe) also in the 60's firebirds with the right engine were quiker and faster than the GTO's this coming from The Ultimate guide to Muscle Cars Americas greatest driving experience(its a book). also "The 350hp LS1 should have been droped into the old grand prix and it would have been a better match." thats the most idiotic statement ive everheard the gto is rwd and the prix is fwd, fwd sucks for big horse power, im mad at pontiac for dropping the Trans Am i loved that car, sports cars also are very different from pony cars and muscle cars, sports cars are vipers and Ford GT's also miatas RX cars, "the new gto is just a new grand am. the end." coming from a guy whos sig says
"Displacement is no replacement for BOOST".
im sorry just had to vent.

I know that fwd is not a good platform for a high output motor. What i meant to say was the old grand prix is a much nicer looking car that the GTO. All it needed was a better interior, just like all of the pontiacs.

sorry i just had to vent bad day, but i still disagree, but if i worked for Pontiac i would have done more to the body, well whatever we get a new one in 3 years.

As an original GTO lover, I would have to disagree with all the negative input. Those of you that were alive when the GTO was available new, will recall much of the same BS. That is, there are other cars with better looks. Who cares? Next, you're going to compare it to that POS Neon again. Again, WHO CARES???
And this new car is a well designed, well balanced performance car. It meets the original design criteria, first put forth by DeLorean and Wangers. And... It will blow the doors off the average GTO made before it. Only the Ram Air cars would go quicker.
I suggest we all heed the advice given by C & D, "don't look a gift goat in the mouth". This new car is great, if for no other reason than it exists at all! And I don't lament the lack of retro. Retro is merely trying to cash in on past glory. This new car is already establishing some glory of its own. With tires and a chip, it will outrun the SUPERCHARGED Mustang. Can we put a blower on it?

Thank you!!! :iagree: but for those who disagree and think it sucks, the :bs: stops when the peddle drops, dude sounds better like this, "The BS stops when the hammer drops."

Absolutely right!!!
It could be so much worse in so many ways. I heard on Autoweek that GM was considering puttin a fake 'hoodscoop' sticker on it. Fortunately, some executive had a strong cup of coffee and stopped that idea.
As someone who found all the Firebird 'screaming chickens' embarrasing, I think an understated look is best.

You wouldn't BELIEVE how easy it is just to smoke the tires in the new GTO! It's harder to keep traction! :smokin:

Yup, Melbournes starr performance is super charging Monaros for an easy 400 killowatts (only 6 pounds of boost too!). 400 Killowatts = to what..i dunno...550hp!!??.
scary way to take the kids to school...

"You wouldn't BELIEVE how easy it is just to smoke the tires in the new GTO! It's harder to keep traction! "
Basically the car is powered by a Corvette engine, it's a lot heavier then the Vette, with skinnier tires, and a little more torque, I can imagine it is hard to keep traction.

Well, according to gminsidenews.com, the current GTO is a placeholder for the 2007 GTO which will share the Zeta platform with a proposed new Camaro.
