sorry for the double threads, but i need to know by tomorrow. i was going to put some 285-75-16's on my 95 tahoe, but i was told by the dealership that 165 was the tallest tire they'd put on, because any taller and the tires would rub causing damge to the tire and inside fender...really? i know of z71's that have had 275's w/ no problems. does anyone know if i could get away w/ 285-75's or 275-75's?
thanks for any help

yo, if you go wider in tread, you need to go lower in sidewall height to keep same tire diameter (ie: 245/75-16 to a 265/70-16)

You can fit a 265/75-16 with no problem, going any bigger will indeed cause rubbing unless you change your rims.

My question for you is, why in gods name are you going to a dealership for tires?

the taller tire may fit, but it will throw-off your speedometer calibration because of the difference in tire diameter, do a google on this and you'll find a calculator where you plug in the change of tire size with respect to what size you are starting with, and it will compute how much error you will cause to the speed displayed on your speedo

Ah nice, and I was going to try and figure this out myself for the sake of the challenge.

285's are no problem. The dealer is only stating what they do factory-wise since 265's are the largest that come from the factory.
Here's mine with 285/75-16's and everything else is stock. There is only MINOR rubbing on the front left frame at full lock.
