Ok, im going to buy a new car soon (manual transmission), but ive only driven one like twice only and No one can teach me at the moment, i cant wait anymore cuz school starts soon.
I pretty much know how to drive em, but im just having trouble going from a complete stop to first gear. I was only taught how to do the " no gas and slowly let the clutch out" method--will i do fine just by using this method? i dont wanna look stupid infront of the dealers.
And, how do u do the method with gas pedal involved, is it like this (correct me if im wrong).....first..depress clutch..put in gear 1..put in gas,maybe 1500or2000rpm..at the same time slowly let out clutch untill friction point..then i dont know what to do....help

The " no gas and slowly let the clutch out" method is fine for learning but you need to learn to balance now.
An object (the car) at rest will remain at rest, basic law of physics. You need to provide enough power with the engine to both overcome inertia and move the car forward – which won’t work with just the auto choke. To balance you need to give it gas while letting the clutch out – all cars are different as to when the clutch catches so you won’t look too stupid, you ‘re just getting used to a new car.
If you have a tach don’t worry about rpms – a smooth take off happens when you balance the clutch and the gas – you need to get the feel of the clutch to know when to give more gas, it has to be intuitive – if you think too much about it you’ll stall the car. It just takes practice – no one can tell you how to do it.
There are only two things you can do:
1. Find a manual to practice with
2. Get the new car, screw what the dealer thinks, (he won’t give a damn, he just want’s the money) and learn to drive better on your own in your new car.
