Vavle cover gasket?

Would a bad valve cover gasket cause me to have oil in my spark plugs, like on top? When I first put the socket in it had oil on the tip. Would this also cause me to burn oil out my exhaust?

I don't think so - that gasket is just to keep the oil inside around the top of the valves - it doesn't effect the the spark plugs - if you have oil around your spark plugs usually it's head gasket. I had the same problem with my old engine with 160,000 miles on it - I just swapped it out, but I had oil in my coolant and stuff too, so I know my head gasket was gone.

the oil should be coming in around the gaskets inside the valve cover that goes over the spark plug holes. if your plugs arent all the way tight some oil might be leaking around them and getting in the cylinder and coming out the exhaust, also maybe the head gasket for the oil coming out the exhaust

The little gaskets that keep the oil out of your spark plug holes are called grommets I believe. I had to relace mine this last summer, they were leakin and I lost my spark plugs because of it.
