cardio is the most important factor in producing great abs. people say variation is extremely important to "spot burn" the fat there. too bad "spot burning" is a myth!
-i say you try to build muscle just like any other place on the body...just try to do 12-20 reps. depending on the exercise performed.

oh yeah, diet is more important than even cardio.
-one more thang, everyone has the muscles for a 6 pack. (i couldn't resist)

It's all true, you can do situps till you bleed/die, but you won't get the definition you're looking for.
You need to Diet + Cardio + Work out, only a finely balanced combo while produce results.

what i meant was that i can easily feel the muscles through the fat or wahtever it is.would the fact that i have a really fast metabolism make dieting less important or is it still important?

it is the most important. it is hard for me to build muscle as well. i was eating 3200-3400 calories a day. i would guess around 250 grams of protein daily within those calories stated.
in one year of changing my diet/exercise i gained about 25lbs. you can do anything you want to, just stick to your plan.

if you really want a six pack, there is a really easy way. start drinking coffee every hour of everyday. this would be the cheap way, you could start doing coke-this is expensive though. i am in a weird mood, do not take this seriously.

eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 2 or 3 big ones this will help speed up your metabolism. don't over do the carbs and do about 1/2 hr of cardio at least 3 times a week. you gotta get rid of that layer of fat to get a 6 pack. if you do cardio and weights in the same day always do the cardio first or you won't get much stronger.

if you have to do cardio and lifting on the same day always, ALWAYS do cardio after weight training. that is, unless you do cardio in the early AM and weight training in the later PM.
i have heard this, and completely understand why this is. If you want to understand why, I would go to howstuffworks.com and look up how muscles work. pay attention to the ADP-ATP cycle inparticular.

i've heard many theories on this subject the experts say to do 10min cardio before weights then go all out on the cardio after weights. i've usually just done 10-15min cardio go all out on weights then eat everything in the house. worked out fine for me when i was 17 i gained about 25lbs and had 7% body fat. some experts say your weight training will suffer if you kill yourself doing cardio because your muscles don't get all the stuff they need to recover. i've also heard the "window of oportunity" theory which states that you need to eat within 45min of lifting to replenish your muscles. i think i'm gonna try doing cardio after weights for a while to see if it works out. i know eating and resting after weights works well for me i went from benching 185lbs to 250lbs in one year. i still think the best way is to do cardio on different days than weights.

if you have the time/determination to do cardio everyday by all means do it! that would be great. try eating every 2 hours. that is all.

ive got the same problem, though it fluxuates. ill have a defined six pack for a few months, thin a nice little layer of fat/think skin will develope over it. I, too, have a fast metabolism.
after a year or so i noticed that this fluxuation was in sync with rugby season (full rugby in the winter/spring...sevens in the summer)
moral of the story? play rugby or some other sport that combines arobic with anarobic exercise (hockey). i say rugby because practices tend to last an hour and half, and its an hour and half of hardcore workout.
that, or just have lots of sex....

Get your six pack to show.
Take it out of the slab, then out of the plastic.
Drink.
Repeat 4 more times until all beer is consumed then forget why you asked in the first place.

Or you could just not request a bag at the booze shop and show the whole world you're a softcock who doesn't drink it by the dozen :D
I haven't read the thread and can't be arsed doing so, but if you want to get rid of that surface fat, run the fucker off, or walk up a hill 5 times a day with your abs contracted :D
