performance chips

i was wondering how performance chips work. how much hp will i get if i get one? cuz i looked on some websites and saw that you get 20+ hp. are they really worth the money?

they change the fuel parameters as well as timing.

will i really get 20+ hp?

I bought one of the cheap “mugen” (yeah right) ebay chips for $20 and it claimed a 10-20hp increase. I know hp increases always change depending on what engine, and other mods you've already done, but 20hp is an exaggerated figure. When installed there was a little engine performance improvement, but for the most part it just made my idle higher. I’m glad that I bought it, cause I need all the engine help I can get on my 1.5L SOHC. I have heard the cheap ones can damage your motor and or ecu, but I’ve had mine installed for almost a year now and I haven’t had any problems.

if you have a local shop that can do a custom program for your chip of you car then your better off doing that... preprogrammed chips do give you some hp.. if you get the right chip for the right application... some chips are better than others and what not... but getting a custom program works with your specific engine and stuff...

Those ebay +20 hp chips are a hoax. I know, cuz i asked the same question a long time ago. Those cheap things are only a resistor that you solder in that delays your sparks. It basically means you burn more gas per compression. They're bad news, they'll kill off your sparks and guzzle gas for very little gain. +20? Yeah, right, biggest lie ever.

A chip on a Honda wont get you any real power. Try it on a VW 1.8T and youll feel a difference not on a Honda. Ive seen dyno charts on a b16a2 with an aftermarket chip gaining 1.5 horsepower at the wheels.
