Ice ice baby

I'm driving down a side street in my subdivision (Toronto), and I'm moving slow cause it looks icy, and I come to a stop sign and slide right out into traffic!!!!
It was a total ice rink - it got kind of warm yesterday but everything just froze up this morning into a total ice rink on the unplowed side streets!
I was not moving fast at all, and my ABS kicked in immediately, and I'm heading straight towards this Mercedes Benz station wagon who has the right of way, and lucky for me s/he finally notices I'm not stopping and they turn out of the way. Lucky for me - no accident.
Be careful out there today!

That is the scary thing - I have snow tires!!!! Nokian Hakkapelitta NRWs to be exact, nearly new. They have tons of ice gripping sipes, yet I still slid immediately - not much you can do on pure, smooth ice...
My mom was following about 10 minutes behind me, so I called her immediately after this happened (she hadn't left yet). She went to the same stop sign, in her Acura MDX with giant knobbie tires, and she still slid even after she knew how slippery it was from me calling her (not as far as I did, though). It was damn slippery...
