Noticed how clean it is. This is how it looked right after the valve covers were taking off without any cleaning.

I couldn't believe how clean the valve cover & valve train components on the SR20DET were, so I took covers off my G20 and compare. Again, this picture was taken prior to any cleaning.

Looks tight dawg. You must have a blue G20. Looks very clean, you will have a nice looking turbo set-up soon. Keep up the good work. Installing yourself I presume.

Thanks for the compliment. My G20 is actually gold. I just happen to like a blue looking motor :) I'll be doing the install myself and a friend's help.

I have a 92 G20. The DET wasn't all that clean when I bought it. I had to do alot of exterior cleaning ;) The internals was untouched when I took the photos. I had a shop do the powder coating for me.

Hi Geo,

You have forgotten. I got this motor from Luke but it was far from looking that clean when I first got it (exterior wise). The internals are untouched when I took the pictures. I'm not sure but I *think* you can use a aircraft grade paint remover and spray it with a good amount on it, let it soak and then remove the powdercoating.

BTW, thanks for helping out with my SR20det questions. When it's time to install the motor I will need your help on vacuum connections. Do you still have notes on vacuum lines?

How did you get the exterior so clean. It looks like you had to do a fair amount of work judging by the pictures of the manifold before you powdercoated it.

Yes, I had forgotten. I spent a lot of time cleaning mine and it didn't come out early as nice. I've cleaned up a couple of engines and neither one came close. Sheeeit son.

Oops. I meant from the tops of the letters. I can tell you a good way to do it. :D

I sure do. But the only ones that are a real concern are the vacuum canister connections to the solenoid. That is all in my article.

But, I'd be more than happy to help you in any way I can.

Yes, I'd like to remove the powder coating from the tops of the letters. I was told to sand it down but I haven't try it yet. If you know of a good way, please let me know :)

Alot of the hoses and stuff were missing from the SR20DET so I wasn't sure where they were supposed to connect to. Next on the to-do-list is replace the rod bearings. After I'm done with that I'll send you pictures of vaccuum connections and maybe you can verify them for me.

TIA,

Lot of elbow grease in addition to alot of different strippers and cleaner chemicals. After all the dirt and grease where gone. I had to go back with my air tools with wire brush tip and go over every inch of that motor. I'd even use polish tips on that motor. Some might ask why? All I can say is that it's a passion of love.

OK, here we go.....

Put easy release tape around the letter. At least two layers and probably double wide. Start with a file. If you have multiple files, use progressively finer files. Once you have all the powdercoating off the letters and have the metal as fine as you can, use a block of wood wrapped tightly, wet it down with some WD40 and sand them smooth. Then remove the tape.

Don't forget to use the tape since without it, you run the risk of damaging your powdercoating. I've done it twice. Works like a charm.

Ask Luke. :right:

Sure, let me know what you need. The DET is easy to hook up. There are only a couple of vacuum lines. Everything else just falls into place.

Do you mean wrap the block of wood with sandpaper? If so, what grade do you recommend?

Luke,

I'll try to be nice as possible. You didn't reply to my emails, phone calls, nor posts about what was missing. You told me that I would be getting a complete motor with top mount IC and front mount IC pipings because the turbo was an odd ball with the cold side facing forward. Misc items where missing: flywheel, ps pump, intake piping, vacuum hoses, and the IAA unit was broken. A "complete motor" should have all those items but I've seen some SR20DET without them so I'm not going to grumble over that too much. But what gets me is that I didn't receive the top mount IC nor the IC piping for the front mount with the motor. You later said that the IC was damaged and that you *thought* there was IC piping for the front mount but there really isn't one. So I paid for a motor with these items and I'm not getting them, so I'm entitled for some compensation for the missing items..right? (it's only fair).
